Just someone putting spurious and controversial stuff up to drive clicks and likes. Nothing more.

I like the distinction there...

It's interesting when you discuss Fernando with his fans, they rhapsodise about his strategic sense, and how deeply he engages with / dictates to the team on race strategy.

Except for the 28th of September 2008 of course, inexplicably Alonso couldn't be bothered to get involved on strategy in the slightest on that day..... wink
Probably also the 27th, when he qualified with an unusually light fuel load. Just didn't think to question it I guess. That's Fernando!

I wonder what he felt in Brazil that year, given the sequence of events "unknowingly" started by his good self robbed massa of points and made Hamilton WDC.

McLaren are looking at a different design concept for their car, they think they've taken their current design as far as they can. Could be a copy of Red Bull/Ferrari/Mercedes, could be their own.

It's possible they could turn up with a new design this year. https://www.planetf1.com/news/mclaren-teases-conce...

They've already gone closer to the Red Bull design with the sidepods in France

Quoting your original statement:

As some have said before: Alonso did what he did to screw Alpine because his ego was dented and he didn't want a repeat of 2007 (LH hands FA his arse on a platter).
Upset with not being fawned over in the way to which he has become accustomed, he set out to sabotage Alpine.
Were Alpine on their game? No, that's obvious and they were badly wrong-footed but that is how FA operates and they should have known better.

I'll repeat what I said earlier: Alonso is Toxic (and a lying, cheating POS).
For this to be a "statement of fact" you must know Alonso and/or operate in the teams that he works for.

Please share your experiences in this regard. What's he like out of the car?

Surely it's much easier just to cite Twitter and scurrilous rumours and call it "fact"?

I quite like that. Perfect station car. No-one would park anywhere near you from the fear of something falling off.

If it's not working out, it's not working out. It doesn't do either party any good to drag it out for another season.

I'm sure they (McLaren) have paid their contractual obligations......

not really. Danny was collecting big bucks but not delivering. I hope he does better at his next team.

I'm sure Danny will be crying all the way to another Formula with 20 million quid in his pocket.

I'm all for loyalty, but F1 is a performance based sport. He's managed 19pts this season, to Lando's 76 (exactly a quarter). He's clearly underperforming and holding the team back, so why wouldn't they roll the dice on someone who's on an upward trajectory?

I love his personality, but he's resolutely failed to deliver on the promise of his early career. He's a 33-year old who's getting out-performed by Bottas and Magnusson this season so far. Chances of him 'kicking on' from here are pretty minimal.

I'd love to see him have a bash at GT, and he'd be a welcome addition to Le Mans. Maybe he'll live out his NASCAR dream? Maybe he'll go back to Aussie and drive Supercars at Bathurst?

His ego might be a bit bruised, but I tend to think he'll be ok.
