Have not really had an issue with Naomi so far but she’s just said of Hamilton’s qualifying ‘such a silly mistake’ and of George’s ‘a very bad session’ and I’m thinking for the first time that she’s overstepping her own level here.

So she should only say nice things? A 7 time world champion put his car in the wall and his teammate ran out of talent; I don’t have any issue with her saying this (or any other pundit tbh).

It’s surely not particularly controversial, to state that even a GOAT can occasionally have a bad day at the office? Yesterday was the first time in five years that Lewis has binned it in qualifying, back to Brazil 2017.

It’s fair comment for media pundits to be asking why that might have happened, from a freak gust of wind, to the pressure of being close to the front row for the first time this season being factors in the crash.

For me the question is not weather a commentator can comment but the choice of words. Not really "a silly mistake " at his level is ot. Makes herself look a bit of a prat

It was a silly mistake it seems though? I thought I heard Lewis say it was his mistake and he was sorry for the team?

And I think binning it into the wall can be considered quite a bad session?

Tend to agree for someone who has never raced in F1 and level of experience is Clio racing she really has no technical competence to know if it was a silly mistake.

Maybe she was going on what Lewis said about the incident - that there was no technical issue and he was extremely disappointed in himself for damaging the car.

There are some really pathetic comments in this thread. I have never raced any sort of car and I know that what Lewis did yesterday was a silly mistake.

Agreed… certain people are just looking for something, anything, no matter how small to have a pop at her. Lewis blamed himself so is she supposed suggest an alternative reason….

I’m not offering any reason so your point is completely Irrelevant. The only person that knows is Hamilton

The hilarious thing is that people are throwing Schiffs experience at her when it’s far higher level than anyone in this thread has managed.
She also has far more experience in punditry than anybody here so it seems nobody is qualified to comment according to their own logic!

Just an observation with an opinion attached.

I don’t think that binning it in the final qualifying run whilst on for 2nd/3rd on the grid in the 3rd best car is automatically a silly mistake. Brundle said that it was an achievement that Mercedes drivers were in a position to contest those positions. He acknowledged that crashing is unfortunate but always a possible risk when pushing for 100%.

Similarly I don’t think that P4 for Russell equals a poor session.

I think that remarks like ‘silly mistake’ and ‘poor session’ should be reserved for when somebody makes a ‘silly mistake’ or has a ‘poor session’.

You do realise they know each other? Ironically she said he texted her in response to the very type of comment you started this thread with.

Radical concept I know but perhaps she asked him?

A friend of mine stacked it at the Monaco Historique. I immediately texted him to ask if he was OK and got a response shortly thereafter.

How are you qualified to determine when a formula one driver has or hasn’t made a silly mistake or had a poor session?
Clearly being a fan of the sport, racing at any level except elite level or researching isn’t enough as many here seem to be falling over themselves to explain.

Love Johnny Herbert’s expression when she was offering her thoughts just now. When you have a strong front then words you can’t understand followed by The rear follows the front ! What the heck was she saying just nonsense

I hold F1 drivers in very high esteem and tend to believe that ‘silly mistakes’ are a rare occurrence in F1.
