Sprint race will be about 23 laps so Red Bull will walk it, the main race is more open

I just cant see Merc going with the new motors....their race pace has been great in free air but the lack of straight line performance means it wouldn't be anywhere near as effective as it was last year.

Not enough slow corners for the Mercs to be competitive here, theres 6/7 breaking events, ok if it rains it gets very interesting as some of the turns actually become corners! Merc should comfortably be quickest in sector 2, but will just get left behind on the long drag up to turn one from turn twelve, at 1200meters long.

ERS depletion from the lead car with DRS is why most overtakes happen in this stretch, there are just not enough hard braking events to recharge to defend.

Its saying a lot for the 3rd best car to be in the talk of contention of P1 (as well for the drivers at Mercedes), (lets be fair Red Bull could have comfortably won every race this year)..

Drag is slightly mitigated with the altitude, it's also similar to Austria with 70%+ of the lap at full throttle.

Hass to surprise with a decent points finish..

the altitude is a good point, we can expect the Ferrari's to struggle a bit because of it and merc should well be the second fastest car if they do.

I just dont see any way Merc bolting new PU's in will get them the race win.

McLaren have posted on Twitter this afternoon that Lando has food poisoning. They are expecting him back at the track tomorrow. The only reserve McLaren have on site is Nyck de Vries.

Could be pretty big for the McLaren / Alpine battle if Mclaren’s point scorer is off sick!

Get well soon Lando.

The life of a reserve driver can’t be much fun - taking time out of your own career, turning up every weekend hoping to see someone get sick or injured. That said, he got one go earlier in the season, and scored points in the Williams!

Could Gasly "unfortunately" get a couple of license points this weekend and miss Abu Dhabi for Alpha Touri rather than miss a race next year for Alpine?

If you get a race ban for 12 licence points, what then happens to your licence points? Do they get reset?

As opposed to staying on 12 and meaning further bans with any extra points until the year passes from the original infraction? Hadn't thought of it like that-I'm not sure if I'm honest.

Yeah, I don't know how it works once you're on/past 12 points.

In the blue book, there’s a rule that if you manage to tot up 12 points you get a 3 month ban, but then none of those points can be counted against you in further totting up.

Consequently, you will often see drivers entering lower level club series at this time of year, with the intention of doing something daft to pick up easy points and get banned. Hence they will start the next season with a clean, but technically still dirty, licence slate. Hey, it beats being behaved for 12 months!

Don’t know if that rule has filtered through from the FIA or if the super licence has its own rule in this regard.

It’s probably a better gig now than it ever has been before though! Obviously with Covid- can’t remember there being so many stand-in drives.

Spare a thought for old Stoffel Vandoorne and Esteban Gutierrez etc… reserve drivers before reserve drivers were trendy and in demand.

If you were any stand-in driver in 2020 or 2021 it was basically a case of standing about in the garage all year in the hope that one of the drivers will go off sick, and then when that happens being told that Nico Hulkenberg is already on his way hehe

So that's what Max was up to at the end of last year...
