2023 F1 Support Races Thread - F2, F3, Academy *Spoilers*
Discussion
Just posted this on the F1 thread too, but...
Just watching the F2 out of the corner of my eye (I fully admit I don't follow it that closely, just every now and then). I assume it's partially the dull weather but it's very evocative to see race cars spitting flames again, it seems very old school and cool. I know F1 is trying to be hyper-efficient but I do feel it's a lot less spectacular as a result.

How was that an unsafe release when the team in front was double stacking , was the other car going to park in front and completely block the team behind
Yes that was really harsh. The incoming driver was already stopping in the only place he could, to avoid blocking the driver about to be released in a very tight pit lane. No champagne on the podium. Dilano van ’t Hoff, rest in peace.

Very good F3 race to start the day.
That was an absolutely brilliant race, constant position changes all down the field, a few broken wings and the top nine cars covered by only six seconds at the end, despite no late safety car. A deserved win for O’Sullivan, and a notable 9th place for Sophia Floersch, her first points of the season having gained a dozen places during the race. Riccardo Patrese has just posted the following on FaceBook - with his past, and current, motorsport experience I thought it was fitting to repost it here - it's very heartfelt...
"I was there last Saturday at Spa.
With Lorenzo I was preparing to experience his 24 hours. I had just cheered over Kimi Antonelli's victory in Formula Regional, when the cold news of Dilano's death arrived.
I had known him in karting battles and his dad was often together to watch the children.
Immediately a thousand thoughts went through my mind: the race that was about to begin, the unfavorable weather conditions, sleeping fears powerfully resurrected.
I have been involved in motorsport for 40 years of my life and I have experienced many sad episodes, lost friends, Ronnie, Gilles, Riccardo, Patrick, Rolf, Manfred, Elio, Ayrton, Michele, but as a father you live it very differently.
Mum Elena and dad Mario indulged me in my choice to be a driver, Francesca and I agreed for Lorenzo to be a driver. On the other hand how can you deny a guy's passion and desires if you've been doing that all your life.
Eau Rouge is one of those corners where is enclosed “the essence” for which a driver loves to race: myth of speed, pleasure and difficulty of driving, challenge.
When you go beyond these limits, the satisfaction is immense. This is what makes you overcome all fear!
This is why Dilano did what he loved.
Now rest in peace with the pleasure of what you have done.
What remains is a family destroyed by pain and above all a father who lived his great passion with him day by day.
May he one day find peace of mind again.

Crashes already in F3 at Silverstone. Everyone backing up for the last couple of corners, and someone on a hot lap trying to navigate a way through met someone going way too slowly on the apex.
Hadn’t realised that Sophia lost her 9th place in Austria, after her car failed scrutineering after the race.

Nice tribute from Riccardo Patrese above.

That safety car in F3 for the rain is absolutely ridiculous. I’m really beginning to think it’s time to stop watching single seaters where the FIA are involved.
Gregiore Saucy will be furious, he made the gamble on the rain tyres but everyone in front got a cheap pit stop under the SC so he’s still last. Top 10 are still on slicks, and it’s stopped raining. All fun & games!
