Probably a rumour or something that I read... Audi were keen on having a German driver in their team.
They always say that and, at the start, it’s common to go for nationality - witness Schumacher/Rosberg at Mercedes and Heidfeld at BMW.But once they start winning, it’s just a matter of who is best. Exhibit A - Mercedes post-2016.
Also.. if they want the best, why are they hanging on to Hamilton?
This one’s very silly, but Newey has been spotted standing outside the Mercedes garage this morning, making notes on their new front wing.
Could Toto pull off the coup of the decade, as the legendary designer has his contract up for renewal after this year? With the cost cap rules, those three wild cards allow a technical director to be worth an absolute fortune, to a front-running team with sufficient budget.

Newey has a shares in RB Technologies, it aint happening (not to mention he's seen looking at all the other cars at multiple times every weekend).Could Toto pull off the coup of the decade, as the legendary designer has his contract up for renewal after this year? I’m sure this was de bunked a few years ago, he runs a PSC that offers services to RBAT.I would suppose it depends if the new benefactors wish to pay someone who is already out of the cost cap.
He would be a great investment for any team.

I think that an aero designer poking around and making notes on a rival team's aero package is perfectly normal and something Newey has done for years.Could Toto pull off the coup of the decade, as the legendary designer has his contract up for renewal after this year? To use it as a reasoning for a potential move is laughable (appreciate that you didn't put 2+2 together to make 129 here Sandpit )
I do see the coffers tightening at RB now that Mateschitz has gone, but I think Newey would head to another series, activity or retirement before joining a team like Mercedes. He likes his freedom, which Red Bull offer him in spades.
