Ex-BAR team boss Craig Pollock is aparrently bidding to field a "gender-equal team" called Formula Equal, with a 50/50 gender split of male and female staff at all levels of the organisation.

This has been in the works since 2018, and Pollock has had to be very careful about who he speaks to in F1 to avoid leaks over the past 4 years.

Aparrently the team will be "Gulf based" so potentially has significant financial resources.
That bastion of equality.

This strikes me as the sort of idea only pursued by someone looking to drum up investment, enjoy the flow of cash into their pockets and some positive media attention and then a few years later announce that they've had to give up on the whole idea because [insert face saving reason] and sadly all the cash put in so far had been used up on business expenses and salaries. Only a madman (or lady madman wink ) would actually carry through with such a scheme.
Nail on head. Pollock has pulled this scam before (see P.U.R.E engine development program/vapourware).
I actually didn't know about that.

I just assumed this idea was all about grabbing a few quid because, honestly, there is no way it could ever work. An F1 team that isn't free to hire the best people for the job would be hopeless.

A team to promote equality with a 50/50 gender split in key roles, funded by Saudi Arabia. You couldn’t make it up.

I don't think it is meant to work. It is just Pollock setting up his latest grift and you've already identified how he makes out of it.
