Mid-season zeropod update would be the one taking the full biscuit. ajprice said:
Kyle Engineers on the Mercedes and Red Bull
The problem I've got with these videos is it does nothing to tell you which cars are better or worse, which is what we really want to know. So what he's telling us is technical but ultimately useless.Vortice here, device there. Great, so what will that do in the grand scheme of things, what is it trying to achieve in terms of grip or laptime. No idea.

Well yeah that's obvious though, depends on how much you like the technical details, it's a bit of a fun dive into why certain features are or aren't there.Vortice here, device there. It's not entirely useless as you can refer back to it once the 1st race is underway.
They're all trying to achieve the same thing, the lowest average laptime over the course of a race, whether that's through better downforce, less drag, being kinder on the tyres etc.

I guess that rather depends on whether your interest lies in the technical aspects for their own sake or simply on the overall results of them. For plenty of us it's the former; I'm at least as interested in how the teams approach trying to make the cars go fast than whether they succeed. It's interesting that, according to Kyle (who I'm sure knows far more than any of us!) the Redbull and Mercedes approaches seem to be very similar. It would take a brave man to bet against Redbull having done it better, but it probably shows Mercedes have a better understanding of this concept than I would have expected having spent two seasons going down a blind alley.
