Not only could this be a significant hit for the 2026 car, but I suspect it probably makes Verstappen leaving at some point in the next few years an order of magnitude more likely as well.

If Newey doesn't retire, I suspect there's going to be a hell of a bidding war for him between Mercedes, Ferrari and Audi.
I should imagine he already knows where he is going.

If he's told RBR that he's leaving then I suspect he already knows where he's going. The bidding war, if there was one, took place weeks ago when the first round of rumours surfaced.

I feel like Horner was holding on because the situation had appeared to stabilise. Now that he's fumbled Newey as well as his PA, he will surely receive even less support.
Nah. It's yet more stealth lobbying from Anthony Hamilton. He's the lobbying master and desperately wants his boy to win an 8th.
Yeah it’s nothing to do with the stink at Red Bull

It’s somehow Hamilton’s fault

Perhaps he will simply retire and enjoy playing with his many toys.

I don't see the likes of Ferrari, or Aston, being happy to have a part-time guy to oversee their design team and whose secret weapon is a HB pencil.

I do believe that RB will miss his guiding hand in a few years into the future, but they have a pretty solid team behind him.

Possibly all done and dusted just before Ham announced he was off to the red team? scratchchin

If he does go to Ferrari I think even he'd be surprised he's changed his mind. He mentions in his book they've tried to get him a few times and said why it wouldn't work.

With nothing more than a complete guess, I'd put a cheeky 10er on him having a move up the road to Silverstone and drawing green cars for a few years

Didn't he write in his book that he didn't want to have to move his children to Italy? They're grown up now.

Well Ferrari have got the extra cash now that they have signed the multiple million pound deal with HP.

Newey moves to Ferrari. Will be announced soon so he can do the minimum gardening leave before designing next years car.

Max moves to Mercedes. As he probably has a clause to leave if Newey does.

Who will be willing to go to Red Bull with them not having Honda engines or Newey…

I reckon he'll end up staying at RB, on the conditon though that Horner is a goner.

He’s also a sailing nut and has often spoken about wanting to win for the Americas Cup. Think Ron not letting him have the time to mount an attempt was one of the reasons for jumping from McLaren to RB.

Ferrari have just announced a programme and would given Newey another chance after then 2017 cycle.

He had more than enough money years ago to retire. He is not going to retire unless and until he cannot do the work anymore.
I bet dropping the better part of £6 million on his new Yacht might tempt him to keep working for a little while

So the options are

Ferrari - He's stated he would like to work with Lewis, didn't his wife tweet something about Ferrari at some point - plus the road cars he could build.....

Mercedes - Would hose money at him

Aston - Would hose money at him

Audi - Would hose money at him

I think he likely has a few quid - so I really can't see him ending up anywhere other than Ferrari.
