Not only did he never win a GP, but he doesn't even hold any records anymore, having just been overtaken by KMag for most race starts without ever leading a single lap.

Even Markus Winkelhock managed that!

Of the current journeymen, I’ve a soft spot for Bottas and Ricciardo, but can’t see the latter of those still in place at the end of the season. It would also be good to see the Hulk finally get his podium, but that’s going to require the most chaotic of races!

Ukyo Katayama for me, dont know why but always used to pick him in the Tyrrell on the old F1 game on the Playstation 1.

Oh, lots of.
Always liked the 'nearly men', like the pre-WDC Hunt, Jarier, DeCesaris, Jabouille, Kovalainen, Perez, Maldonado, Grosjean, K-Mag.

Some on the cusp of greater things, but ultimately with only short highs like Tambay, Alboreto, Panis, Trulli, Fisichella.

Some very talented ones, but bad cars made them no-hopers: Guerrero, Byrne, Alliot, Martini, Grouillard, McCarthy, Tuero, Senna (the other one...).

Does that include teams as well? Like Minardi, Osella, Tyrrell, Toleman, Hesketh, Arrows, ATS, Ensign, Ligier, AGS, Fondmetal, Larrousse and of course Andrea Moda?

not controversial at all, and from the same era Gerhard Berger. He did win though, but still more of a mid field driver than a champion contender?
Brundle didn't win in F1.
I think sortedcossie was referring to Berger being a winner, not Brundle.

Whatever. He was no Lance Stroll.

Was he the driver with the wobbling head?

I liked Petrov, I watched an interview and he came across very likeable.

Also Mick, Yuki and Takuma. Sato's overtake on Alonso with the Macca had me jumping off my seat!

Always liked Fisico too.

Always had a soft spot for Mark Blundell. He did a pretty good job in 95 in theMclaren that Mansell did't fit in.

Enjoyed the Tyrell days with him, I think he got a podium in '94 at Spain?

I'm fairly certain he scored a couple of podiums for Ligier in 1993 too. Prior to moving to Tyrell.

Johnny Herbert, grabbed a few wins, always wondered what might have been if he'd not had the big F3000 crash in '88

I always want to see Nico Hulkenberg in a race winning car and see what he can do. Always seems like such a lovely chap.

I’ll bite

I don’t think the concept of this thread is to nominate former WDCs as ‘likeable midfielders’.

Tsunoda I like very much.

Sorry who mentioned Zhou, I think the guy is a tool. Him and Logan should be kicked out from F1 ASAP!

Felipe Nasr, he got fifth place on his first race and in his last year he not only outperformed Ericsson, but also guaranteed the poins that gave a higher championship position to Sauber and consequently more money. His prize for all that? Sauber dismissed him!

For me: Anthony Davidson (esp his debut in the Minardi with oversized overalls at Spa), Giancarlo Fisichella (thought he would get a title) and Johnny Herbert (what for the F3000 crash!).

Johnny Herbert, three wins, started F1 in 1989 after a near career ending accident in 1988. He finished 4th in his first race in Brazil in a Benneton, beating his teammate Nannini who finished 6th. Always liked Ricciardo and Bottas.
