I was thinking lando should have lost that lap due to the last corner but it seems it cost him 3 tenths so he didn't benefit. They use discretion.

Yep - it's usually referred to as "making it up as you go along".

Or following the rules that are clearly in place for the meeting and that everyone competing is aware of.

Well, they stated that no advantage was gained. I had a look for the actual rule but I couldn't find it... can anyone find it so we can see what it actually says? I'd like to know if they are making it up as they often appear to or if the rule mentions gained benefit.

Rules that are, in effect "no rules".

The fact that you can do certain things and be unclear as to what the punishment will be does not make much sense to me.

Get rid of rules that aren't "rules".

It's all arrant nonsense.

Pretty sure there have been multiple instances of drivers losing lap times where they lost time due to track limits.

I'm a big critic of F1's seemingly random penalties, but the 'following lap will be deleted' rule is either in the race notes or it isn't. In this case it wasn't, i presume because there's nothing to be gained by running wide there. The pole lap was deleted in error.

However it's still a bit of a st show because other drivers may have backed off on the basis that they thought their lap was safe.

I’m actually in agreement with it standing. He was slower in sector 1 and 2 than his previous lap.

Just poor for Hamilton to be told to slow off, there was always a risk the lap could have been appealed anyway

Quite enjoyed the Sprint Quali but the overall format of these weekends is not working for me.

Should be one quali only and that either sets the grid for both races, or the finishing order in the sprint sets the grid for the main race.

Also, Sky needs to stop this crap in the studio back in London, absolute nonsense of a format.

4am. No thanks.

As much as I'd like to watch it live.

I think I'll forgo the Qualy and watch the catch up later for both. Hopefully able to avoid the result!

Side note - Indycar at Long Beach is on this weekend too. I don't follow it really, but could be an entertaining watch at prime viewing time.
Don’t forget the IMSA race on Saturday evening. You can watch it free online via IMSA.com or Radiolemans.com
and wec at imola, good weekend for motorsport

Was he told to back off the lap?

Could not agree more, I have gone from where possible watching most of the coverage to 5-10 mins before the start and straight off after sessions, no atmosphere no sense of the paddock feel its a hapless format.

Damon Hill is being quite clever on his twitter by giving people lots of space to air their negative opinions about 'the studio'. Hope Sky drop it quickly, least they have given Ted a economy class ticket and a bottle of water so he can get to the pit lane!

It is very annoying. I find the pre-race waffle a bit annoying anyway, but the studio stuff is just pointless twaddle. As you say, just no atmosphere at all.

I agree and have let Sky know, suggest everyone else who can be bothered does likewise

Just start watching five minutes before the session and stop five minutes after. That's what I used to do when it was free. I sure as heck wouldn't pay to watch all the twaddle.
