And yes, he's the GOAT.

The 300 wins by British drivers and he has 96 of them is just astonishing.

Genuinely astonishing ignorance on display here. If anything, F1 is at an all-time high-point in terms of talent on the grid at present.

If Hamilton/Verstappen were somehow time-travelled back to an earlier era of F1 they'd likely be in an almost comically different league to the drivers of the day. Fitter, quicker, better prepared, sharper physically and mentally.
Obviously you’re a kid, and you’ve not seen much proper Grand Prix racing. Oh well, that’s exactly my point.

I would if he was but he isn't.
He’s the best in a very poor era. The moniker “yawnula Bormula 1” is pretty much it. None of the drivers want to tread on the feet of anyone else in the convoluted sponsorship web and insta / advertising revenue biased world this has become. Everyone has one eye on where they’ll be going next, and hardly anyone is concentrating on the here and now. It’s as far from what motorsport is supposed to be about as it can get. Current Bormula 1 is an even more niche ‘circus’ than it ever has been, and in my opinion, the cars and engines are complete cack as well now. So if being the ‘G.O.A.T’ means being the best of a truly rubbish bunch, then yes he is, but ‘G.O.A.T’ is the greatest of all time, and he (Hamilton) really really isn’t. If you look at the time when Grand Prix races were a very specialised discipline, driven by drivers who raced all sorts of other cars, and got to drive G.P. Cars for a few, super gruelling, ( relatively) dangerous events, sparingly, you see what a facsimile the current garbage really is. But if that’s what floats your boat, then that’s what floats your boat. A lot of the ‘new intake’ are so poor, that they never would have got a look in at a G.P. I can’t remember a season where the ‘new intake’ has been so utterly crap. MotoGP has never looked more appealing to me than this year.

This tells you all you need to know about his ( Hamilton’s ) ‘Great win’ today.

Especially when the opposition is ordered to let him win.

I've watched every race for the last 42 years and been to more than 50 in person.

Not at all. Like I say, the whole thing is a total joke now. It’s not even worth the bandwidth talking about it.

Yah, we're not going to be able to have a discussion, clearly.

To write this after today’s race just comes across as ignorant, or as you trying to just provoke an argument.

Having Bottas as your teammate helps. laugh

Russell should have been in the Mercedes for 2021 but perhaps that's why Hamilton contractual negotiations took so long.

Stipulation 1. Bottas
Rubbish - Bottas was barely even at the race: he's useful for the manufacturers, but no use for the drivers. And, as has been recounted thousands of times already, Russell in the 2021 Mercedes was never going to happen.
On the contrary, he's very useful for Hamilton. He doesn't take points off him and doesn't get in his way very often.
I doubt that's intentional, though...

I'm not a kid and I've seen decades of F1, back to the 70s. In my opinion you're wrong.

What is it precisely about Hamilton that makes you think he’s NOT the greatest?

Still the best and proving himself time and time again even when he's not in the fastest car, go Lewis!

Hamilton will never be able to hold a candle to this, and several others who came before, and since.

I'm a huge Senna fan, but to me, Hamilton represents the best of Senna and Prost combined. Effectively, he's Senna on a Saturday snd Prost on a Sunday. We may never see such greatness again.

I’d agree, Senna was the best of his time. But he has faults, faults I don’t think Lewis has. I suspect you’d disagree.

Is your argument that there can’t be a GOAT in F1 due to the difference in eras?

Or do you suppose Senna would be able to outdo Hamilton in equal machinery?

Probably is the best there's ever been, sometime comparison aren't fair when your talking breaking records, like most wins and most poles. In the 1990s they had 16 races a season compared to the 22ish we have in modern day F1 so we are talking another 6 chances to win per season, that racks up over a long career. The record that does stand though regardless of races is championships, and my guess he will overtake schumacher's record before he retires even if its not this year. On paper he is and will be the best ever.

Wonder who the next driver will be to beat Lewis Record ? very doable when they start in their teens and end a career in their 40s.
