George has been driving a Williams at the back of the grid finishing last or second last for two years. A Renualt would feel like a masterpiece by comparison. laugh
In that case Alonso is now driving a masterpiece, and will win the WDC

biggrin
No chance. Alonso is done and dusted: he'll never drive a true masterpiece again. Hamilton on the other hand wink
True. Hamilton has had a masterpiece since 2014 wink

The Mercedes is a good car. It won races. Of course George was going to say it was good.
"Good car"

Now try playing it down hehe
It’s a great car.

But not unique in terms of performance.

I don’t know if you’ve actually watched F1 pre-2014 but there’s been great cars before. 2010-2013, 2004, 2002, 1996-1997, 1992-1993, 1988, to name but few.

Relative to its current competition, the Mercedes is not head and shoulders above any great car before it.

It is not just a socket into which you screw a light bulb to drive it and win races, to paraphrase Williams F1.

Indeed. Brilliance in action. British engineering and British driver = complete dominance.

No cheating, no funny business.

Love it!

When your car is in another zip code there's no requirement to get your elbows out against rival teams.

But Bottas might want to start getting his elbows out soon hehe

Bottas has accomplished most of his trophy cabinet against the most successful driver in F1 history.
Think that was Barichello;-)
I dint think Michael was the most successful driver in history.

Lewis has won the same WDC but has more race wins, more Poles and various other records. So no, Michael isn’t the most successful driver in history.

What are their respective FIA trophies pre F1?

Yes it looks like F1 might have an interesting battle at the front.

2016 seems a long time ago

Hamilton obviously won GP2 - I'm not sure if that was considered a World Championship at the time.

Schumacher only won a couple of German championships before F1.

Hamilton is certainly supreme when compared to Bottas.

Was considerably tighter with Rosberg and Button.

Toto manager cock-blocked Riccciardo from Bottas seat. Shame really, would have been more interesting at the front

Schumacher did it in less time....does that count?

Yes, possibly. We'll never know. As it stands, the most successful driver in history and a brilliant team and brilliant car. Rarely seen, such utter perfection on all fronts. A true privilege to witness!

Once Hamilton retires do we think Verstappen has enough time left to beat his records? With Hamilton out of the picture I seriously cannot see anybody being able to challenge Verstappen.

Verstappen is still only 23 and Hamilton is 36.

That's one way to look at it

I was quickly bored with Schumacher dominance.

Tight battles at the front are much more preferable.

Depends on his timing with changing teams.

Hamilton, as we know, timed it perfectly.

As it stands, Verstappen could have 17 more years in the sport, given Alonso and Raikkonen have gone on until they’re 40.

Plenty of time to get a lot of championships if you have the right car.

Particularly as Hamilton was 23 when he won his first title, although I guess Verstappen would be 24 if he wins this year.

Max isnt good enough to match Hamilton, he doesnt posess the mental capacity & foresight to do so, Bahrain showed this, he’s been in F1 since 2015, if he hasnt got it by now he never will.
