MM, you’re either doing this because you enjoy winding us all up or, more like, judging by other posts you’ve made on the cycling and coronavirus threads, I honestly think you have some mental issues.
I wonder whether recent arrivals are PH plants to drive some statistic about forum traffic: lob a pointless hand grenade, stand back & watch as the numbers climb?

1992 sums Monaco up very well and totally supports my point. Mansell was several seconds quicker than Senna, in a far superior car and with fresh tyres. He put on a show, but there was no way he was ever going to be able to pass.
He was trying to force an error. Clever tactics.

I'm probably older than you, by the way, not sure why you seem to want to have an age competition?
Maybe, and I don’t care about “age competitions”

Cleary all of your claimed years of watching F1 has not resulted in much of an understanding of it.
You owe me a new pair of pants. I’ve just voided my bowels and bladder laughing at that.

Imagine continuing to watch a sport for 15 years when the top guy pisses you off. Must be a glutton for punishment.

Guess I'm alone in thinking that Monaco has become a total snoozefest and is in no way representative of F1 .
You're definitely not alone. Monaco is nearly always a total snore-fest. It's possible to drive literally several seconds off the pace and not be in any danger of being overtaken.
It's my favourite qualifying but yeah, the one race I don't bother watching.

You’re very much on your own on that thinking. Generally speaking, People who know won’t engage, those who have no clue will spout this stuff, and think they’re right because those who know can’t be arsed arguing with the mentally deficient types who come out with this stuff.

It bugs me how people rate Monaco as one of the tracks one must do well on to be considered a ‘great’

Some drivers don’t have luck there, some don’t get the right car at the right time.

Jim Clark never won in Monaco. Does that make him a lesser driver than Olivier Panis or Jarno Trulli, who did??
4 poles and 2 fastest laps from 6 entries though. And of course he missed the race in 1965 to compete at Indianapolis.

On the other hand, he won four times at Spa.

I think it was Nelson Piquet who said driving at Monaco was like riding a bike round your living room.

And David Coulthard, and various others. They’re right though.

Monaco track has changed very little but the cars are completely different so you can't compare. Have you ever been to the Monaco classic gp? The old cars can actually run side by side and overtake each others. Nearly impossible with todays cars. First they are much bigger and they are much more equal in term of performance which make it very very difficult to over take.
Until the current regulations where the cars were made wider to 2 Metres from 1.8 metres, modern F1 cars have been narrower than those run in the Historic GP. The current cars are now the same width as they ran in the ground effect era, which is the fastest historic class at Monaco.

Passing at Monaco is difficult because they are all on the same tyres in an Aero dominated series with one fast line. It takes a big performance difference or a mistake to pass when you have a field full of pro drivers.

This year's Monaco classic underlined the fact that you can't pass there, even if you have a huge pace advantage, other than running the car in front off of the road.

Well maybe. He was comfortable at the time, but in the previous laps he was getting to that point by skinning every one else. That’s just incredible at Monaco.
It's not at all incredible if you crash and therefore fail to finish.

I was and am a huge fan of Senna, and his Monaco quali lap in '88 was outstanding but race day was one of his lowest points.
Arguably it was Ron Dennis to blame for Senna crashing, his driving was fairly metronomic until Ron broke his concentration ( I say this as no fan of Senna)…sometimes it’s best to leave your driver alone when they are in the zone.

I know what I’m doing, leave me alone !!

Is it left or right ?

The sport is about finishing the race distance first.

Everything else (qualifying / overtaking) are just steps to get you across that finish line first.

If you don’t finish, it’s all for nothing.

As great as Senna was, he did have his faults.

Oh really? That shows what you know then ( not a lot ).

Mansell vs Senna 1992.

Two of my absolute nominees for G.O.A.T. ( for very different reasons admittedly).
Again in case you missed it ( by virtue of not being alive then )

Ironically, it’s only a snore fest now, by virtue of Sir moansalot and his ilk.

Senna an outright cheat???

Apart from Japan, when he didn’t cheat but took Prost out (as he said he would) when did Senna actually cheat?

And how would you describe the king of the cheaters aka M. Schumacher?

A genius????

Neither Senna or Mansell were perfect, but they were both fantastic racing drivers and fascinating individuals with he ability to build a team around them. Hamilton is a great driver, no mistake but he's just so painfully boring. I can't imagine another WDC I would less like to meet.
