I just think a lot of people don't like Lewis at all for the way he is, and that is my take.
The same Schuey acknowledged the world over, as a cheat. That one? Sincere?

As for your last paragraph - you’re probably right.

Thirdly the best driver these days (IMO) is Verstappen, why doesn't he drive for Mercedes.
Maybe max is scared of going up against Lewis?

Bingo. Max wouldn’t go anywhere near Lewis. He’d be shown up and it appears he knew as much... as did his dad. If only Jos could have bullied the team like he bullied the grid in Max’s Karting days, maybe Max would have had a chance - but even then, probably not.
Motorsport.com, a more reliable source, presents it a bit different. Verstappen had talks with Mercedes but Mercedes never made an offer. And of course did Lauda say Lewis is the best, Lauda represents Mercedes, not RB.

And this is probably why they didn't made the offer: You always have to pay attention to whether both drivers fit together,

Besides Mercedes wanted Max before he entered F1 but couldn't offer him a seat, they wanted to park him in GP2 for the the time being. RB could and that's the reason he ended up at RB/TR.

And indeed vdn, Max won just about every karting race he entered, alhough I doubt it's because Jos bullied the rest of the field.

Never made an offer because Jos made it clear that his little baby would get shown up more like. No point offering. To be fair, he probably called that right.

Haha, the only high maintenace baby in F1 is Hamboy himself, just ask Rosberg.

What's very clear is that the Verstappens were and are always out for the best seat available; shame Meredes doesn't have the guts.

Would that be the Rosberg who absolutely buried himself to win the 2016 title (for which I take hat off to him), then reflected he couldn't put himself through it all again so retired?

What on earth does your final sentence even mean?

Exactly, Max needs the seat more than Mercedes needs Max.
Horner wouldn’t put Lewis in with Max anymore than he would give a seat to Lewis when Vettel was his boy...
Don’t believe it, read it here, I know you won’t respond after as it’s what you do.

RedBull needs to present Max with potentially championship winning car like Ferrari gave Vettel a few years ago or he waits his turn for Lewis to lose interest or his powers wane. Funny how you want Max in a car with Lewis when, they had the chance... Max/Jos bottled it! Does that mean he’d have wanted Schumacher status? Hmmm wink

You make an excellent point! Max fans keep droning on about Mercedes not putting him in the second seat but there’s no way red bull would do the same if the shoe was on the other foot!!

Is that the same Rosberg that finally managed to get a title then bottled out of F1?

I'm just glad Mercedes seem to have had the sense to avoid having to deal with the Verstappens and leave that job to Red Bull! laugh

Lewis has been peerless for some years and I hope that continues.

There’s no way Mercedes would have wanted Max, especially not the 18 year old Max who still had an awful lot to learn even if he could be quick on a good day. A 28 year old Max, once LH has hung his helmet, that’s not out of the question at all, although George Russell is probably a better fit for the team.

Hiring MV a few years ago couldn’t have given Mercedes any *more* titles than they have now, but he could conceiveably have cost them one or more, when compared to a more consistent but less exciting driver such as Bottas in the second seat.

IIRC the Ferrari was dominant for two seasons during the MSC run from '01 - '04.

MSC was also against the faster McLaren and amazing Mika in '99 and 2000.
Great battles.

If Mercedes keeps it up for next year as expected, he won’t be bested I don’t think. He’s too good at everything.

So minimum 8 titles and 110 wins I reckon.

He may even go for another 3 or 4 years I guess?

Ten titles isn’t that insane sounding which is actually insane in itself.

The 2022 rules should reset the pecking order and perhaps we'll see a new front runner.

Mercedes have not just nailed the engine under these hybrid regulations but also the car. If it was just the engine, Williams wouldnt be a shamles like they are now...

Mercedes have also managed to outspend everyone else too.

In 2022 there is a budget cap of $145m so it should stop the bigger teams outspending and outdeveloping everyone else.

Can Mercedes still rise on "equal" footing? I doubt it.

The next regs are heavily aero biased and based - so I am expecting Red Bull to be strong; especially with floor, diffuser and side skirt technology. The aero side could dominate the engine technology.

We may also see Ferrari rise again but....I can't see it. Too much drama and inconsistency from them.
