Lewis Hamilton G.O.A.T. ?
Discussion
Listening to an interview with John Bernard about Prost vs Lauda, he makes the good point that in those days there was no telemetry.
Prost never seemed to suffer understeer to the same extent as Lauda, which meant he could get on the throttle quicker and Lauda had to rack his brains to figure out how he was managing it.
Compare Schumacher having one-way access to Herberts telemetry, Hamilton posting Buttons to the entire internet and Nico/Lewis poring over each others and the "no coaching!" attempts that were abandoned by the FIA and its another thing to factor into the GOAT mix and how incomparable generations are.

Good point. I think this massively works against Lewis. If Rosberg had not had access to what Hamilton was doing, I think he'd have had no chance of pulling off a title.paulguitar said:

But likewise by then Lewis had the experience of Alonso & Button to review and cherrypick from. Who did Nico (apparently most technically knowlegable driver Williams ever had) have on the way- old Schumi and Wurtz? It also means if you were, say, Vettel and found some new "trick" way of driving you wouldn't be able to hide it the way Lauda or Clark would have.
Compare Cevert and Stewart trying to compare notes through simple conversation and hand gestures!

The GOAT !
Having Bottas as your teammate helps. Russell should have been in the Mercedes for 2021 but perhaps that's why Hamilton contractual negotiations took so long.
Stipulation 1. Bottas

Yah blah blah.Russell should have been in the Mercedes for 2021 but perhaps that's why Hamilton contractual negotiations took so long.
Stipulation 1. Bottas
Just man up and admit you accept Hamilton is probably the best in history.

It’s getting harder to disagree. When he pulls out performances like today and Turkey 2020 where they just shouldn’t have won, he is making the difference.
Agreed, today underlined his skill and race craft, but I’m in awe of how he finds the motivation. Funny to witness some people still resisting his brilliance, you have to wonder why? ELUSIVEJIM said:
I would if he was but he isn't.
He’s the best in a very poor era. The moniker “yawnula Bormula 1” is pretty much it. None of the drivers want to tread on the feet of anyone else in the convoluted sponsorship web and insta / advertising revenue biased world this has become. Everyone has one eye on where they’ll be going next, and hardly anyone is concentrating on the here and now. It’s as far from what motorsport is supposed to be about as it can get. Current Bormula 1 is an even more niche ‘circus’ than it ever has been, and in my opinion, the cars and engines are complete cack as well now. So if being the ‘G.O.A.T’ means being the best of a truly rubbish bunch, then yes he is, but ‘G.O.A.T’ is the greatest of all time, and he (Hamilton) really really isn’t. If you look at the time when Grand Prix races were a very specialised discipline, driven by drivers who raced all sorts of other cars, and got to drive G.P. Cars for a few, super gruelling, ( relatively) dangerous events, sparingly, you see what a facsimile the current garbage really is. But if that’s what floats your boat, then that’s what floats your boat. A lot of the ‘new intake’ are so poor, that they never would have got a look in at a G.P. I can’t remember a season where the ‘new intake’ has been so utterly crap. MotoGP has never looked more appealing to me than this year.https://talksport.com/sport/motorsport/856685/lewi...
This tells you all you need to know about his ( Hamilton’s ) ‘Great win’ today.

Genuinely astonishing ignorance on display here. If anything, F1 is at an all-time high-point in terms of talent on the grid at present. If Hamilton/Verstappen were somehow time-travelled back to an earlier era of F1 they'd likely be in an almost comically different league to the drivers of the day. Fitter, quicker, better prepared, sharper physically and mentally.
