UPDATE – TRACK INSURANCE

Moris.co.uk are once again able to offer discounted track insurance for these sessions. To get a quote, complete this form.

Ignore that it says over £30K – all drivers should complete this form only. Select 'PistonHeads / Haymarket' as the organiser, and they'll get back to you soon with a quote.

Booked on the 9am session. First ever track outing for my R53 Cooper S although I did a sprint in it on Sunday. Now to convince my pensioner father of an early start.

Just got my quote from Moris, £70 for my M3 including all the fees.

Seems a bit high for 30 minutes but I'll pay it for the experience ^_^

As a follow-up to this, would price go up/stay the same if a person has multiple sessions per day? Is the price based on a per-session/hour basis?

Just wondering for future reference in case I like it...which I probably will!

and the beautiful Porsche a year or so before that. Fortunately quite rare instances.

Helmets are usually available for hire. You’ll need to have your arms and legs covered. Needs also to be a full face lid if your car is an open top.

Track time booked over here. To all those dithering-just do it. No better way to dip your toe in the water!
Okay, I presume helmets are compulsory for all but an open face is okay except for a convertible? Just want to be sure before I purchase a new helmet... smile

Was that two years ago? Wow, time flies...

Looking forward to parking up and knowing the Monaro is nowhere near that track!!

You'd have to ask Moris for the specifics, but it probably wouldn't be much more for a full days cover if you were doing multiple sessions. I insure my Megane through Greenlight and they have a track day bolt on, where I pay £65 per day. Quite a few brokers can offer this (Adrian Flux is another), so something to consider if you're going to be doing more track days!

Yes exactly that. The helmets they hire out at the circuit are open face, so you'll be fine with one. I believe full face is required for a convertible as you've mentioned.

If it all gets a but frantic out there they run sessions in the afternoon for the same money and they're usually better for the more experienced driver. I've done these before and frankly it goes nuts sometimes. This is at least what they've done in the past.

And the briefings for the PH sessions have been pretty scant in the past. Overtaking either side and on bends has been permitted in the past.

Not in my experience of the past few years smile

Also for those not used to it be a little careful if cold/slippery.....a little poo came out for me at ~23 minutes here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JK0JiwAY8Y&t=... and at ~2:50 for my passenger....

The last briefing I attended somebody asked if he could overtake in or around bends and was told categorically that he could, but he should be sensible. And on a day when they had to de-ice the track before we could go out. It was a shambles on track and the Land Rover Defenders on track were just plain daft.

By contrast, the PH track day at Goodwood a while back had first timers attend and it was a first class day, everyone was free to run at their own pace without being held up. OK the weather was better but the standard of the briefing and division of ability for track time meant everyone had the best day possible.

I remember that one, briefing was very short but the standard of driving wasn't that bad to be honest (with the exception of a Revo Audi and a 1M). I think the fact that it was so slippery meant people were more cautious than they would have been!

Admittedly they tried to push the capacity at that specific event, but it has been reigned back down to 30 cars now as a sensible number. I was in that briefing when they said overtaking was permitted in the bends, which we had a word about and it won't be permitted again!

Naturally people will complain about being held up by a novice, so we'd ask people to be sensible and book onto an intermediate session if you've got some experience. That way everyone should be happy, and I think it's great that we can give so many people the opportunity to drive on track for the first time.

For those that just don't want to take the risk, we'll be running a few PH Fleet cars there so you can hop in for a passenger ride.

I booked on for after the PH meet, but used insuremytrackday.com and it was £100 to cover the afternoon, not just a session so can do multiple in the afternoon if i want.
