I'm guessing insurance is optional, in other words its drivers risk only...?

Insurance for track days is always optional as only covers your own car. Waiting for my quote back from.morris before booking track time. There have been at least 2 very badly damaged cars I have seen at previous Silverstone Sunday service's so something I wouldn't take the chance on. (But that's 2 out of 360ish cars so still fairly good odds would be ok without).

I've taken the plunge and booked a track place wobble I went for the last session, so I've got time to browse the cars and for the track to warm up if it's cold out.

Thank you PH staff for the responses. With fewer cars on circuit and hopefully more overtaking discipline I'm a little less worried of getting in someone's way. It will be a nice introduction and hopefully means I can enjoy a full day soon after with at least a few laps under my belt.

Booked up and ready for this! Second time at Silverstone but first in my Audi so will be good to see what she's like when she can stretch her legs a little

Does anyone know how strict they are with dB limits?

Pretty strict from previous events. There's no noise testing beforehand, but if you're exceeding the limit you'll be black flagged. Local residents love to call up and complain about noise sadly!

I've only booked one session as I reckon I might trigger the noise meters. My Cooper S is 89db static (as tested at a sprint on sunday) but it's a lot louder under load. Using this as an opportunity to find out exactly how loud it is. lol.

Good luck to them as 500 quiet cars slowly roll into Silverstone first thing in the morning...

Just of interest are Silverstone able to test the noise limit on mine, even if if not on the track - just for future?

102dB drive by is a very high threshold is it not?

I’m sure they do lol. I won’t risk it, I’ve done a basic static test and run around 100db, on drive by I’ll be way over 102.

You'll easily make it. Loads drop out closer to the event.

You think so? biggrin
Would my name automatically go up the list as others drop out then? Worth just keeping an aye on it?

Yeah you'll notice you'll move up the list as people remove themselves.

Your drive by will always be less than your static as the measurement is taken from a greater distance. Silverstone's 102dB drive-by is very high in comparison to most tracks and I doubt any cars will fail that unless modified. My car at Snettorton measured 107dB static (exceeded by 5 dB) and the marshal still let me on the circuit and it never triggered the 92 dB drive by limit.

Very interesting I measured 106dB (109dB on the o/s rattle baffle) I’m thinking to book now you’ve said that.

I’m running a JCW system with a equal length manifold and decat. It’s proper loud under load although much better than it was on the chav system the car came with.

I’m hoping it’ll be ok but a few minis with the same set up got flagged at Brands a month or so ago when I went with them, but in my Mx5.
