So got my renewal today , a whole 110% more than last year with no claims or points in the last 12 months to affect my premium. Now if I change the home address from London to my sisters place (Bristol) goes down to £620 , compare that to my new renewal of £2100 that is a bargain. I know postcode makes a slight difference however £1500 is a bit extreme!

I rang them and they are not interested quoting blah blah blah accident filled winter bla blah blah, the cheapest I got from the meerkat was £1000 but that is still excessive and dont really want to deal with any of the elephant affiliated companies

The car is tdi vag estate worth about 10k

Any ideas ?

Try tiger.co.uk, they seem more competitive than the other comparisons at the moment...by some margin!

Insurance companies sell your details to claims lawyers, who in turn screw the very same insurance companies with bloated claims. Rinse and repeat ... what a fking mess the UK motor insurance industry is rolleyes.

Referral fees are likely to be outlawed.

The problem at the moment is that if the insurer doesn't get the fee, then it will just go to a claims farmer.

Clue: The ABI want them scrapped. The Credit Hire scummers want it kept. Guess who are more worried about it going out of business smile

I was astonished when I renewed a couple of weeks ago... my insurance company disclosed that they get a kickback for (it seems like) absolutely everything (from the initial claims lead right through to every medico-legal report). Given it's a zero sum game within the insurance industry, surprised they engage in this sort of thing rather than trying to keep the prices of these things low.

Guess the problem is that if one does it all will in order to avoid being the one left bearing the costs but not getting the kickbacks.

That's what confused.com is for... paperbag

On a more serious note, Esure are consistently the cheapest quoter for me, and my renewal quotes are always cheaper with them than a new quote. Still expensive, mind, but at least I know they're not "ripping me off"

Why not? I've just renewed with elephant, is there something I should be worried about?

Elephant quoted me and my younger brother as named driver on my car , took out the policy and when I examined my paperwork he wasn't on it . I explained this to customer services and a they said we are going to listen to the recorded calls logged with us first , to which I said fine . Due to something made up they said I have to ask them in writing to listen to my calls , that paperwork took 8 months to arrive , 3 months after I sent it back they wrote to me telling me they lost the recording .

Mine keeps getting lower.... whistle

  • This is because I'm younger, I've gone from £2000, £1500, to £1100 and checked for next year it will be £800.

I am with Bell, and my renewal was lower than last year (which was my 1st year insuring a car in the UK) despite the fact that on renewal I've added commuting to work on the policy as well as that one of my neighbors reversed in my car and never left his details (did not claim, but was stupid enough to tell my insurer hehe )

I wouldn't count on that £800. Mine is due in two months now, and when I started running quotes out of curiosity all the companies have stopped quoting me where they were quoting £700~ a few months back. Nothing's changed on my end. Just hoping it all changes again by the time mine is actually due.

I was with Swinton, and my renewl came through at about a 70% increase. I got straight on the phone and said that I have been quoted X amount by XCompany and could they beat it to avoid the hastle of cancelling and paying deposit etc etc...

After a bit of tooing a frowing, they soon agreed to beat it smile. Granted it wasn't a massive decrease (about 10% I think) it is still better that it increasing. If you think about it, I got a %90 percent discount...

My advice would be to get onto the comparison sites, get the cheapest possible quote, knock a couple of £100 off and get on the phone to your current insurer and haggle like turkish aftershave salesman!! biggrin
