What the hell shape are some people?

VW collected my car and brought it back yesterday after getting a bit of work done. When it came back, the drivers seat was at it's lowest setting and really reclined. I'm 6'4" and I couldn't comfortably drive it like that, even my gibbon-like upper appendages were stretching to the point of shoulder-dislocation manoeuvering in the car park.

I see it all the time actually, usually young guys in shopping hatches. How is it comfortable? How can they see? How can they even fking drive like that?!

I know what you mean.

Don't forget the 'hunched over the centreline of the car whilst holding the wheel with the right hand only at the 10 o'clock position'.

Having said that, I've always adjusted the seat to it's lowest position ever since I started driving over 20 years ago. Just feels more comfortable and less risk of bumping my head (I'm 6'3") smile

The BMW garage does it too - I think it's because if they don't move the seat back some taller drivers can't get in easily. My wife has to move the seat back in ours so I can get in and then tweak to suit.

This always makes me laugh. Firstly the idea that some spotty little kid who herds trolleys at Tescos for a living is going to be keeping a low profile from rival gangstas in his hood. Secondly the idea that the steal used for the doors of a 10 year old Saxo, is going to stop a bullet.

I didnt say I understood why some people choose to have their seat in such a position, neither did I claim to have my seat as such.

I just questioned the attitude that the OP has in that because they dont understand how it could be comfortable it therefore must be wrong. Simple ignorance really

It's fashionable and impresses the 14 year old girls at Maccy D's. Didn't you know that fitting in with the yoof crowd is more important than the ability to see out or operate the controls properly?

Tis an odd one. When in traffic on the way to/from work I tend to go into bored mode. Right hand on steering wheel leaning against the door card and pillar left hand on gear stick. I best get to JJB and get my self a rebok hat.

I do this.

In the Audi if my seat isnt at the lowest setting my knees rub on the wheel. I push the seat back to a point where i can put the clutch fully back without stretching. I then recline my seat to the point where i can put mu wrists on the top of the steering wheel without streching. It means i can hold the wheel with my arms slightly bent which is most comfortable and i have more control when.... 'driving enthusiasticly'

What's to understand? Sitting with the seat so low and laidback that you a) restrict your view, and b) are stretching to reach the wheel, isn't a good idea.

Unless it turns out they're disabled and don't have an arse or something, I fail to see what we're missing.

That's exactly as I have my seat set when I drive. 6' 5" with long legs and mr tickle arms. It's what feels comfortable to me. Any higher and my head hits the roof, and closer and my hands catch my knees in most cars.
