At that price your chancing it to a degree anyway. No one would buy a. Banger then change the csmbelt!
I'm actually thinking about doing just that if I can find a friendly home mechanic that'll take payment in beer. Need to do 3000 mainly motorway miles in said banger and don't fancy being stuck at the side of it.

Just got a reply when asking about the cambelt;

Hi
It was done @ 90,000 miles at an independant garage, service book has been stamped stating it.

Well I had a bid, but been outbid straight away frown

I've sent him a message asking for more details including info on the cambelt change.

Sent this last night, and received a reply today:
Q:
Hello,
I was just wondering if you have the receipt/service stamp from when the cambelt was changed?
I've heard it can be very expensive to repair these engines if it goes.
Thanks.

A:
The garage that replaced the cambelt stamped the service book at the time.

I think if they get several hundred questions asking about the cambelt, they may begin to smell a rat- keep them coming!

Just sent this one to him . . .

"Hi,
Could you please tell me who changed the cambelt and if you have a receipt stating that it’s been changed (I know it’s probably stamped in the book, but I'd need to know there is a receipt stating it was changed before bidding)

sorry for asking the question as no doubt you've been asked it many times, but as I'm sure you know it costs £250 just for the parts and I know somebody who recently sold an almost identical car because it wasn’t worth changing the belts."

Common problem, FSH but no evidence apart from stamps in an owners manual

Bidding over and it managed just under £500, bet he's gutted as it didn't reach the reserve!
