Is this a Genuine Audi S3?
Discussion
Last few weeks there has been an "RS4" driving round my area, although I hadn’t seen it up close something didn’t look right however I couldn’t put my finger on it. I run the REG on the DVLA - Nothing, few weeks later it appeared on there and it was in fact a DIESEL!
Yesterday I was driving though the local town & spotted what appeared to be a 2010 Orange "S3", although everything looked fine, even the callipers had S3 decals (although looked a little small?). The colour just didn’t look right, I considered a TTS in Audi Orange, and it seemed a lot more pearlrescent than this flatter paint, I made a mental note of the plate and ran it through the DVLA later, car comes back as:

Date of Liability: 01 05 2012
Date of First Registration: 19 10 2005
Year of Manufacture: 2005
Cylinder Capacity: (cc) 1968CC
CO2 Emissions: 187g/Km
Fuel Type: Petrol
Export Marker: Not Applicable
Vehicle Status: Licence Not Due
Vehicle Colour: ORANGE
Vehicle Type Approval: M1
Vehicle Excise Duty Rate for vehicle
6 Months Rate: £134.75
12 Months Rate: £245.00
The things that stand out for me is that its a 2005 car with 2010 facelift (could be one of many older S3’s with this mod) and the C02 seems very low for this type of car? Can anyone inform me whether this is an S3 or a badged up 2.0 going by this data?Date of First Registration: 19 10 2005

Thanks for the contribution...mnkiboy said:
October 2005 would make it a 55 reg. I don't think the S3 came out till 56?
CO2 of 187 is too low. It's probably a 2.0TFSi.
This was my thinking, I would expect 250+.CO2 of 187 is too low. It's probably a 2.0TFSi.

This whole facelift game is definitely not a bad thing imo - a good business earner too if you know what your doing
We have people face lifting their Range Rovers from 2008 > 2010 both Vogues and Sports - Why not? It looks better identical exteriors to the latest model without suffering a massive hit on the wallet and its surprising how much a face-lifted one can fetch on the 2nd hand market.

I agree with HellDriver....so what!?
I find it positively weird that you would take the trouble to take mental notes of peoples number plates to check if they are "genuine" versions of what they appear to be.
The cars aren't even for sale so if the owners are happy with the face-lifts' they done, so what!? Have you nothing better to do?

Well BeanBag, its not just a Facelift is it? Its an Audi A3 pretending to be an Audi S3...
I asked the question out of curiosity, the car looks fine but something was sitting uneasy with me, I wanted to put my mind at ease and confirm whether it was or was not an Audi S3. If the owner didnt want any attention he wouldnt have badged it as an S3 and sprayed it bright orange!

Who cares if it isn't a facelift? The owner probably couldn't afford an S3 but likes the look of one so he pimped it up a little. If it looks genuine, then I think good on him. Nevertheless, if a "pretend" S3 makes you "uneasy", I rest my case with the whole issue being totally weird.
Yes, this is Pistonheads and we do like talking about cars here but but copying number plates to check the authenticity of cars is just a bit....well......creepy. I suppose since forums are public places, they are bound to attract strange folk.

Jeez. I can understand going to all that effort if you're trying to buy a car, and you think the seller might be trying to pull a fast one... but to do all this just because you saw a car that might have a different badge on it?
Some people SERIOUSLY need to get a life. I'd be very uncomfortable with the idea of people checking my car registration to see if it is a genuine 130i. Its intrusive and probably against the rules of the sites and services you've used to find out that information.
I reiterate just to really hammer home the point: GET A LIFE!
