European break down cover

Hi everyone,

Can anyone reccomend a company for really good european break down cover, ideally one that will give a courtesy car or cover the cost of a hire car so we can continue with our holiday should the worst happen!

ETA: ideally also the type that recovers your broken down vehicle home.

I have always used the AA cover whilst in europe .... Mainly for peace of mind. Did have to use it once when my missus locked the car keys in the boot. They were extremely prompt, had english speaking operators and broke into my mk1 mr2 in a matter of 10 seconds ( which did concern me at the time). That was in 1997 and have used them ever since.

Using them again in one weeks time for a trip to La Rochelle in my 156 sportwagon.

My uncle did have a serious accident in France and also used the AA. He said they were brilliant in terms of time, support and providing a hire car.

Not sure of others experience........

I like the idea of not having to worry about "what if". The AA cover is around £40-£50 more expensive then other comapnies (RAC included) so i wonder if there cover is more comprehensive, is there anyone here who can shed some light on that? Its good to hear you have had good experiences with them, it may well be worth paying the extra. I'm also quite tempted by their £500 parts and labour cover, although its another £50 bringing the total cost of cover up to £190

Not sure about the hire car, but I looked around at the usual suspects and found the AA/RAC were absurdly expensive for a short trip - I ended up taking out a whole new annual breakdown policy which included european cover as it was the cheapest way to do it. The policy I ended up getting was with the "Green Insurance Company". You should read the policy documents and see what is offered regarding replacement car.

Yeah, i have never gone for the parts cover with the AA. And thankfully not needed it. I have paid £105 for two weeks cover and I am already a member so get a discount. So it is quite pricey - but there is always that 'what if''.......

Absolutely, after my car and a friends car both broke down on the one trip I can't recommend these guys enough!

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

I have looked at the "Green Insurance Comapany" already and they seem to offer similar cover to the RAC et al, all be it a little cheaper. Reading the polices of most of them it seems life might get a little difficult if the car cannot easily/quickly be repaired.

ADAC are being googled as we speak, thanks for the tip all
