No I suggest the ignorant / pea brained who can't cope with driving should get a bus / taxi.

Don't come on a car forum bleating because you can't drive properly.

Sat-nav is brilliant and I love it, however in many ways it's changed nothing. If you're inexperienced at navigating about then whether you use map or sat-nav you'll stil not be as good as an experienced driver - there's no short cut to experience.

I spent 25 years watching inexperienced drivers getting about and sat-nav has changed nothing in that regard - or if it has, it's made life much easier for them.

Not really sure we should be advocating map reading and driving at the same time. smile

So you can honestly say hand on heart that you've never made a mistake behind the wheel, never made an error in judgement?

I have, I've learned from them.. everyone knows that my boyfriend has made mistakes on the road... Should we both not be allowed to drive?

Nobody is perfect.

I'm all for cutting folks a little slack, it's usually obvious when someones just found themselves in the wrong lane, or got into a bit of a pickle, it's common courtesy, like holding open a door. But, there are a huge number of retards out there, who shouldn't be cut a little slack at all, they aren't even aware that they're causing a problem, and they are oblivious to others that are making allowance for them. Give 'em both barrels I say! otherwise your just encouraging a lower bar.

Sorry but this sort of arrogance/ aggressiveness is the absolute antithesis of good driving. Most drivers who really rate themselves are in reality pretty poor.

If you get wound up by other road users you need to look in the bathroom mirror to see the real problem!

Good driving is not about being technically correct and berating anybody who you don't think is perfect, it's about anticipating hazards, some of which will arise from other drivers mistakes, and being able to deal with every situation calmly, courteously and professionally.

If you find yourself constantly whining about other drivers, you're not half as good a driver as you think you are!soapbox

Yep, last time I went to Essex (Brentwood area) I was surprised how much less considerate drivers were.
So it's not just me either,

Case A: following a slow moving van, join the A12, completley empty. I indicate to move into the outside lane van drivers moves over without indicating still at 35 mph (50 limit). I undertake van driver, he gives the nescafe sign. Pull up at the traffic lights turning right he pulls up behind me still mouthing off. I leave slowly turing right and let him get stuck at the lights.

Whats the point?

You put your point across like a dhead. But you're right, I'm a pretty new driver and I was taught to drive by following road signs and markings. They are suprisingly very good. In my first week after passing my test I drove 200 miles to Birmingham with a memorised route from google maps. It went quite well as I followed the signs and road markings competently. If I had started divvering around and switching lanes/cutting people up I would expect people to get frustraited with me and probably beep...

Persistant dithering is a pain in the neck but i wouldnt class the OP's colleague as a persistant ditherer. If she was in front of me and realised she was in the wrong lane i would have a degree of patience for her. Satnavs are very easy to spot when you are following another car and nowerdays i just assume that people in the area with satnavs are either lost, new to the area, just passing through or lack a sence of direction. In any case when i see a satnav i expect the driver to dither so when they do stick on the indicator and carve slowly across 3 lanes of traffic because the satnav says so i don't care becasue iam expecting it.

But this hasn't happened since sat-navs came out, this has always happened.
