Evening all,
been considering getting rid of the mx5 for a while, and have now test driven a 1999 Volvo C70 T5.

So what is the general consensus on them? and anything to be weary of?

very good looking indeed. Not at all sporty but if it suits you and your driving then go for it.

Don't get an orange one!

Really? I thought they were developed by Tom Walkinshaw (sp?) and drove quite well?

I've just moved to an S60 2.0L turbo from my MX5 and it is miles better. Comfortable, quiet, fast and fantastic to drive.

The real issue to look out for is electronic throttle module problems (ETM). ETM problems are by far and awat the most common complaint on the S60 cars so I assume the C70 will probably be the same. It's an easy thing to get fixed though. Overall, I'd still go for a Volvo, the quality is just outstanding.

hah not looking for a bronze one, although i did see some advertised cheap ( and i guess the colour is why)
no im not looking for anything too sporty, but deffo something wwith some go. im looking for a nice quiet and comfortable relaxed car for a change as car history is as follows.....

2004 Smart for2,
1992 1.7td vauxhall disastra
and now a 1989 mk1 1.6 eunos.

so from the above all of them have been noisy and not too comfy either.
Well the car i have found is up for £2k having done 80k ish miles and has a full service history and will be sold with full mot and 12mths tax smile

The selling of the mx5 might be a little difficult, as i do love the car, ive spent a fair whack on it but its still not worth much and worth more in bits that as a whole frown

Then I think the Volvo will deliver beautifully. It's every bit the overtaking monster with bags of grunt when you need it, but it remains extremely comfortable and luxurious. I love over-engineered cars like these era of Volvos. Every little detail has been considered. I think the cars better than the equivalent German competition at a better price.

I have one for my daily commute.

Bought for 1200, meant to last the 6 months I needed it for. Still going 18 months later.

It's fastish in a straight line, show it a corner and it heads for the bush, this may be because I am used to the handling on my other car, not sure yet.

Common faults seem to be ABS ecu, due to it's location over the years the solder breaks killing the circuit. Drivers side window switch failure and headlight switch failure. Oh and the alarm will go off randomly.

All common faults, all of which I had, cheap to rectify.

On the plus side, the most comfy seats I have sat in, and the sound system is indeed the dogs danglies, think it's standard on gt models?

For the money it's a great commute car, keep meaning to change to a more suitable commute car (diesel bmw) but really can't see the need, apart from mpg. 23 is the average.

Hah mpg isnt too important, the mx5 does about 30 on a run, 25combined and about 18 on a good hoon lol so the T5 is about the same smile
