Oil Change by National Tyres
Discussion
Car is due a service, and as this is my work car it is not going to a dealer. The indie guy I used has not bothered to come back to me with a price so I thought I might pick and choose and do some of it myself, as he gave it a once over not long ago.
I was going to change the oil myself. Fully Synthetic oil, and I would need ramps, and a filter spanner or a vacuum pump. Even then the filter cartridge is under the car so a ballache. National Tyres price - £36. At that price amm I daft to let them do it, then do the easy top bits myself?
Needs a cambelt also, but that will be a garage job.

Is the car due a service, or just an oil change? More to a service than an oil change really! I was going to change the oil myself. A mate mentioned this to me. He paid similar money for his E39 530i sport which uses the best part of 7l of oil. They used Castrol edge 5W30 which you cant even buy for that money (normal retail).
Its not worth getting your hands dirty. Having said that, I still prefer to do it myself as I get trade at local motor factors.

I used national tyres last year for an oil and filter. Castrol magnetic IIRC, £36. I couldn't get parts for that price at the time.
I waited while they did it (20 mins) and they stamped service book. Didnt give him a chance to examine disks and shocks. Apart from struggling to understand the moans and groans about how busy they were and I was lucky they could make some money from me, I couldn't really complain.

I put up with them to do the oil on my Accord CDTI, it needs 0-30 Edge and they do use that as I've seen the tank they took it from. their service levels do need some attention as I posted before but I dont get mucky and I am usually in and out in less than an hour ( with a maccyD next door I can grab a quick coffee while I wait)
I can't buy the parts for the price but I do the rest of it myself as you are planning to do.

Used them a couple of times with no problems whatsoever, however last time it was in they wouldn't do the oil change as they called me in to show me the sump gasket was leaking. Payment was back in my account within the hour.
Never tried to sell me anything else, good value considering the price.
