RE: Nissan 370Z GT Special Edition Revealed

When they released the 350Z, Clarkson drove the US spec which was plainly far cheaper in execution for thir version than the one we got. It depends where you pitch the car in the market.
The 370Z is clearly a car for the USA market anyway. It's designed to compete against Mustangs etc which are also relatively cheap.Nissan is trying its luck to a certain extent by offering this car to UK customers. It doesn't need to sell any here for it to be a viable product for them, but for the people that want one, it's here and it's a great car.
I have driven a couple of 350s and loved them, but they are thirsty and a bit unwieldy for UK roads, so it's no surprise people aren't buying them in huge numbers. In the USA it would make more sense.

I really like the 370Z but the price has always seemed a bit steep to me.

But in all honestly, 35k does seem seriously steep

a lot of money..
The only reason it sounds expensive is because ALL cars are getting expensive these days. The Standard 350Z with GT pack (which includes most options anyone will need)is £32,450What other NEW cars can you get for that money?
Boxster: £36,500 - 370Z would waste it
Cayman: £39,100 - 370Z would waste it
Boxster S: £43,000 - Over 10k more for similar performance
Cayman S: £47,000 - 15k more for similar performance
Z4 Sdrive30i - £34,500 - Wouldn't see which way the Nissan went
Z4 Sdrive35Si - £45,300 - 13k more
BMW 1M - £40,000 - 8k more
TTRS: £47,000 - 15k more
Golf R: £31,115 - practically the same price for a GOLF!
When you compare it to its rivals, i think its one of the biggest performance bargains around. The nearest rival from the list about is the 1M which is still 8k more for the basic model, thats hardly pocket change..
What this means is that the porsche is more asperational as a brand, the golf is far far more pratical and the Z4 doesnt induce ear bleeding when your doing 80mph on the way to work from tyre roar..... oh and really nice to sit for 30 mins / hour.
As the above poster said its not really a UK market car but there will be some who buy it so makes sense to keep it in certain show rooms.
Lots of excellent, well informed posts... for a change! IMO the 370Z is a desirable car but doesn't offer enough benefit over a 350Z. It's slightly faster, slightly more economical and slightly better looking (from the side and rear. The 350 has a better "face"). A well looked after low mileage 350 will only set you back around £10 - 15K, so why pay two to three times that for a 370? If I didn't already have a 350 I'd seriously consider buying a second hand 370, but there's little to be gained by doing so.
This special edition definitely smacks of desperation. I definitely agree that Nissan should strip out some weight, thereby improving the handling and mpg. Now that WOULD be worth some extra dosh.
Think I'll hang on for the Nissan 390Z , although that will probably be some sort of electric jobbie.

If the extra performance didn't matter to people then why would anyone pay £8,000 extra to have a Cayman S over a Cayman?
I understand this car loses out to badge snobs, but it really is quite a lot cheaper which more than compensates if you are even remotely into performance driving.
The 370Z seems like an utter bargain. Beautiful (MO), outstanding performance, some innovative thinking as well (e.g. downshifting/auto-blipping). Though I haven't driven a 370Z, I have driven the 350Z and many other of it's predecessors in the line and my long-lived show-stopping negative is the coarseness of the motor. Nissan's are famous for it but it's inexcusable for a sports car to have an engine that is laden with NVH, regardless of how much power it makes. Numbers alone are not why most buy these kind of cars, and the 'feel' of the car is certainly part of the decision.
Perhaps I should test this one, but at this point it would be a major core design change if they built a smooth-running motor.

As someone who owns the only 370Z in my area (well that's how it feels) I quite like the fact that it's not a common car on the roads. Our Z seems to get a heck of a lot more attention that the numerous TTs, boxters etc in the area. I also agree with the posters who say pictures don't do the car justice - I think you need to see one in the "flesh" to appreciate what a great looking car it is. It's not the most practical car in the world (particularly in our area where there are a lot of humps and parked cars on residential roads) but I love it and wouldn't swap it for the world. I'd also dispute the comments about comfort - the seat are excellent and the interior generally feels very good quality.

They'd sell a lot more if they looked like this from the start.....including me - I'd have a new one of these over the 996 I did buy if Nissan sold this Nismo special edition in the UK.
Ah no doubt it looks superb i just think the goverment are kiling the prospect of ownership of the average bloke.I completely agree about the vel rates and mpg issue with this car, it's well off the pace with it's current rivals. It definitely put me off when i was in the hunt for a 2 seater, figured if you're going to pay top whack on mpg and tax then you want corresponding performance...which this z just doesn't deliver.
