Good shed imho, but a bit 'purple' inside for me.
A £1000 Porsche with 6 months t&t. And you moan about the colour of the interior?

I'm Interested to know why the guys girlfriend can't drive it. Why, has she got no head?

In some respects, yes. But I thoroughly enjoyed owning it. I had 2 1/2 years of fun with it - expensive fun certainly, but I chalk it up to experience, and move on. Life's to short to worry about money that's gone.

The chap who won it on eBay got an awesome deal, and seemed a nice chap; I needed rid and so begrudge him nothing.

Now if I can find another job, then I can look at getting another fun car.

Maybe she doesn't want to? If you are used to driving a micra/fiesta/whatever it would take some adjustment, you sit low to the ground and can't see the extremities, especially the wheel arches which protrude a bit from the body. Clutch is quite heavy, dunno.

The steering even on a PAS version is quite heavy, that plus a "different" view of the outside means it wouldn't be a lot of peoples cup of tea, especially if you are short.

Agreed. The view of the rear flared arches in the wing mirrors is a great joy, though. Loved it.

Best shed for a very long time !!!

The 944 shape is something I really like, only second to the 928. I would love to buy this and strip it for a track car, as previous posts have saidm flog the wheels and interior, rip out everything except the bare esssentials, and enjoy the lovely 944 balance.
I would actually consider this car myself, if I didnt have an £1100 bill for complete brake overhaul on my e36 328i at the end of the month.......

As people have said, buy it and if it fails MOT just break it, those teledial wheels are worth around £400 surely? fairly sought after in the Euro VAG scene.
I'd have on myself for a grand but a quick insurance quote from go compare quickly kills that dream...£3800... oh the joys of being 21 in a crap post code.
There was a day when 1986 telephone dials were worth £300, but it passed about fifteen years ago, unfortunately.

Now theyre worth between about £60 for good original and £120 for refurbished.

Agree with both of those comments, although the visibility from (and ergonomics within) a 944 is tragically bad. Driving one 'round town is something that takes some getting used to, and reversing one is certainly not for the timid.

I can understand why a cautious or new driver, without much confidence, would be nervous about driving one. Mrs zcacogp isn't a big fan of driving our S2 (although she has been known to clock up some genuinely impressive speeds on open roads ... !)

I can remember driving around town in a 944Turbo with some subtle mods. 0-60 in 3.5 changing up to top gear at 187mph on the M4, flames out the exhaust. Good Times.

I've always wanted a 944, of course I would much prefer the front engined 968, but a 944 would suffice. I may still get one at some point in my life. I think it would be a fun toy to have and drive everyday too. I am not sure they are exactly fast by todays standards, in fact (and please excuse me as I dont know much about them) but I think I remember reading a road test on a 944 many years ago and the 0-60 time was shocking, even for over a decade ago. I think it was near 7 seconds IIRC. You know, in '88, a Lotus Esprit was doing the 60mph sprint in the low 6's.

Either way, like I said, I wouldnt mind getting a black one. The car itself isnt anywhere near a car you would call "good looking", only on sme angles does the car look sleek and sporty. Otherwise, if you ask me the 944 is the epitome of bland styling, quite uninspiring. Also, they seem to only have come in a few colors, red, black, silver, tan and white. 90's of the 944's i've come across in my time (and during the 90's they were very prevelant) were mostly red and silver.

If I do get one, make mine in black!

I wonder, does anyone know the running costs on the 944? Like the clutch or exhaust, thinks lke that?

Im sorry but I cant believe that story. No way a 944 is hitting 0-60 in 3.5 with subtle modifications. And it certainly isnt topping out at 187mph!

Please tell you werent serious when you posted that, were you? because most posts where people are joking usually follow up some silly claim with a roll of the eyes. rolleyes

With 14 posts under your belt, I am almost leaning towards troll. But look, maybe your a young kid, maybe your a dissillusioned adult, maaaybbeee your a pathological liar, I dont know and I dont bother too much to find out either, but if I may, a word of advice for you young fella. If your new to a forum and want to 'get in good' with its community, I may suggest not making such ludicrous claims. Please dont take my post too offensively, just throwing out a few words of wisdom. Take 'em or leave 'em.

And, welcome to PH! smile

Lots of ppl moaning about rust? if it had major problems underneath it would probably be a failed MOT job..

The owner admits it has dents, sratches etc..(and a shocking coloured inside) these are not expensive cars at all, so a £1000 is about right. I have seen some tidy ones (with little or no rust at all) selling for £2000 and under so what do u expect? rolleyes
