RE: Epic Mazda 787B Rides Again
Discussion
Its a good thing I'm on my own in the factory today! 250watt powered PC speakers turned up to ear-bleed level for the raw sound parts of that clip- superb!
Looked (and sounded) like the test driver was giving it a reasonable amount of juice, good ol-Mazada, their an odd bunch and I suspect all rather mental, fancy running a company based on funny engines and little rag-tops sports car :-)
Nice to see a "classic" being taken out and ragged rather than left to rot.

Why can't the ACO understand that this is the type of endurance racing car we want ? Not wooshing diesels and puny 2-litre turbos*
I was there in '91 with my son, aged 1. He didn't like the Mazda much but fell asleep eventually.

- OK we'll see what the Aston is like but I bet it ain't like a V8 or V12.

The Mazda makes a glorious sound, but the AMR1 from '89; you could feel the sound vibrating in your chest.
Had seats on top of the pits, when the AMR1s went past you could feel the whole structure vibrate-magic! I loved Group C, glowing brakes and turbos in the dark, epic speeds and the noise. Diesels are fast, economical and a bit little dull. Turbobanana said:

Can well believe that. Was on the pit wall at Donny (sans ear protection - forgot it! ) when the 767 went past - and that was loud enough.Hope this makes it to the SS Classic in July - they've got the Group C's back there this year.

I believe works driver Volker Weidler had to give up racing due to ear problems brought on by the noise in the cockpit.
I also was there, the Mazda kept going like clockwork when loads of others failed, I thought it went back to Japan exactly as it finished, never cleaned and pride of place as the country's only winner.I believe works driver Volker Weidler had to give up racing due to ear problems brought on by the noise in the cockpit.
The noise volume and frequency was horrific, no wonder the driver went deaf or worse.

Awesome, there is some good you tube fottage of this car and one where a Japanese guy is talking but stops for a while so you can hear the awsomeness of the car.
My ex-work collegue was also at Le Mans the year it won and said to me that wherever you were at Le Mans you knew when the Mazda was screaming past.
