Technically I think they are illegal unless on a Pre (I think) 72ish plate car (when N definately Yellow, J definately White / Black). They look "Right" on an Older car, but can look a bit odd or chavvy on a newr car - (though they can look good too - and if you have not been pulled and like it it ain't gonna do any harm - worst you will get is a talking too), Black on Black is a good look though.

The wife was adamant she wanted a Tuscan but after reading reviews we chickened out and bought her an S2k. The expense of bodywork repairs / paint was a factor but the main thing that put us off was a review from an owner stating the engine had to have a rebuild every 25k at a cost of £3-5k. Can anyone confirm whether or not this is just someone being unlucky (or perhaps a little to heavy on the go pedal when the car is cold) or if this is a common and expected cost? Also is it a realistic proposition to often drive one on a daily commute of approx 12 miles? There are other factors as to why we bought an S2k instead eg we're hoping to upgrade our house soon so needed something reliable and cheaper to run than a Tuscan but i'd appreciate a response to my questions cos hopefully we will be able to get one in a couple of years time.

That's complete bks.

Speed 6 engines can need rebuilds but it not a given. When they do rebuilds come with an Hyanduesque 5 year warranty.

Bodywork can be expensive to work on, but you don't have to crunch it! If you drive around French style bouncing off other cars then maybe a TVR is not for you.

Thanks for that, i maybe should have mentioned she works as a scientist and sometimes is hospital based so we have had to replace one bumper and repair two others in the last 3 years or so, where people have given her car a slap and driven off. Good to know the rebuild business isn't true.

I've had two Tuscans, continually owned since Sep 2000. Initially a new Mk1 Red Rose, and then a secondhand '02 plate Mk 1 Tuscan S

The RR was a very early-build car and was a right pain - had 3 rebuilds under warranty in the first two years, with the usual finger-follower problems.

The S, however, has been pretty much fine for the last 5+ years with nothing really major at all needing attention, beyond standard things like a replacement clutch.

I'm continually amazed by the attention I get - I live in central London and driving past the queue outside Mme Tussaud's or around Parliament Sq is like getting a visit from the paparazzi.

Very very few things below £60k would tempt me out of it.

Lovely car, chav number plates!
Its interesting to hear opinions about the plates. the black and whites were on the car when I got it and my initial reaction was to put standard ones on, but not got round to it yet. I'd be a liar if I said I was fully sold on the black and whites but............
How's that chavvy!? Surely the modern reflective style plates are much more chavtastic...

To submit a carpool write up they want a picture of you, the owner, so it was me in front of a tasty selection of Ferrari's or with my Mum at Christmas smile

Ok so plates,

Front doesn't look much different. But......

I don't think that the back looks as good with black and yellow plate. thoughts?

If you like the black/silver, then if I were you, I'd keep them on, with the legal ones in reserve in case you get a 'tug'.

I normally hate black plates on a modern car, but having seen your Tuscan on the A40 a while back I did think the black plates really suited the car.

I'm sorry but 3 rebuilds in 2 years?? Why could they not fix the issue permenently to stop the engine going pop every few thousand miles? I realise that your second car has been alot better but I keep hearing the same things over and over, one car can be fine and another car can require 3 rebuilds in as many years. I would absolutley LOVE a TVR but it's these kinds of engine lottery, will it won't it stories that really put me off. Only in the TVR world can someone shrug off 3 rebuilds as normal and go back for a second go, personally it would have put me off for life. I'll probably be accused of not getting the TVR spirit but that kind of failure rate would be totally unacceptable to me and I'm constantly surprised when TVR owners seem to just accept it as a fact of TVR ownership. Not having a pop at any owners because a Tuscan is a glorious thing in so many ways but it's just very mistifying to me. confused
