Wife has one. The 1.1 with a massive 64bhp.

Gearing is very short, engine likes (has no choice) to rev, fits through every gap and you are so fearful of losing momentum you never, ever, lift.

It's brilliant fun.
It sounds alot like the old Swift, foot pinned to the carpet everywhere! I did love the noise the little 3pot would make, although the car was bloody dangerous at motorway speeds due to it being sprung like a steel bed from the 1980's! If you were forced to adjust your course quickly on the motorway it could take a 1/4 mile to get the car back under control, it really did handle like a bathtub on a staircase!

I have just had the mis-fortune of having a '60 plate Picanto 1 as a hire car, it was utter dross!

Firstly the brakes were a switch, on or off, there was no in between
Secondly I could not get comfortable (I'm 5'11 and 15 stone so it shouldn't have been a problem)
Thirdly there was no kit, it didn't have air con (Ok its a base car), it didn't have central locking (you had to pull up the rear locks - its 2011 for God's sake), it didn't even have a fking clock!

Horrible car, and it wasn't even that economical!

Good Luck, I'd get the bus/train and risk getting fleas

Not a fan then?;)
I'm not worried about the lack of kit but the brakes are a concern! When in "on" mode is there much stopping power?
Out of intrest what do you drive as a daily?

The Picanto is a cracking little car and is better than many of the more main stream small cars such as the Micra etc. It will be okay.

The brakes stopped ok, although i wouldn't want to stop to harsh with them (ie from motorway speeds) just make sure your wearing your belt first time you look at them as you may go through the windscreen!

I've just sold a 13 year old Puma as a daily and am driving my G/F's SportKa, so hardly anything 'premium'!

miserable little thing but at the end of the day it's transport and provided you don't crash, it should see you through your holiday cheaply and reliably.

Would never ever rent/buy one myself though wink

This is encouraging! If its anywhere near as good as a C1/107/aygo to drive then I'll me more than happy, think I'm probably asking a but much though!
Oh it doesn't handle, you have to scream the engine and the tank is tiny. I believe ours had 4 different brands of tyre.

But, as discussed; nothing goes quite like a rental.

A friend and I are going for a short break in Scotland and due to our age and "checkered" motoring history have both had to settle for a Kia Picanto hire car (one each).
You'll be needing two large brown bags with eye holes...

Especially when it's two rentals being driven by two mates on the same stretch of road hehe

Get them stickered-up like NASCARs and enjoy hehe

We have joked about "going mental, in a rental" bumper stickers but I doubt the local BiB or the poor hire company would be too impressed!

I guess it ticks the "it's a car" and "it's cheap" and "it has a 7year warranty" boxes at least. We went wild and got a "2" - a/c, remote central locking, ESP, ipod integration stereo (with a clock laugh).

I've done 157 km/h on the gps/185 on the speedometer in the 1.0 55 bhp.

The engine is revvy, short gearing, better than eqvivalent Micra etc. and it's light. Me thinks you will have fun.

Got one as a loaner a few years back when my Polo was getting mended - was a blast - driven like a hire car it was great fun, no real handling and no real power, but flinging it around trying to rev the engine to death was a giggle.

I don't think I would ever own one - I can't imagine driving it normally is much fun, and I couldn't bring myself to treat a car I actually owned like a hire car.

I had one as a rental car a year or so back.

The one thing I learnt from the process is that a lot of repmobile drivers don't take at all kindly to being overtaken by what sounds in the distance like a swarm of angry bees, but shortly after is shown to be a pox box going flat out in 4th...

It's a crap car, but when you look at the money they cost it's actually pretty good. You've got to compare like for like, after all.

.How did I miss this ? I bought a brand new Picanto 1 in March and TBH its a great little simple A-B car. Not sure I'd like to drive it for hundreds of miles at a time though - I'm 6ft1 and it gets uncomfortable after a while.

Brakes are very responsive as said but you soon get used to it and it does stop very well when you want it to.

Top tip if the rental firm give you a 1 - NEVER lock the drivers door by pushing down the pin because you WILL lock the key in it eventually - I did yesterday at a petrol station getmecoat

How far can you get out of a tank while revving it to the heavens, as I understand that petrol will be hard to come across on a Sunday in the Highlands? Would a couple of Jerry cans be a good Idea?

I think its a sub 40 litre tank, so even at 50mpg you're looking for fuel fairly often.
