I was looking at a local garage with what looked like a tidy RX8 for £1100! yikes

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/uvl/popup.jsp?cur...

On further investigation the 'too good to be true' price is due to a blown engine.

It got me thinking, if a customer has knowingly traded in a car which is ready to go bang, does the garage have any sort of "comeback" for the kind of situation?
I'm not saying this has happened here, but potentially this could happen especially with more unknown engines like these.

On a side note, how much are these rotaries to rebuild? smile

no its up to them to check it - they are the expert, and they should check it.

probably the customer traded it in and told them it needed an engine?

get a 2nd hand engine for £1k and £500 to fit it.

or just buy one that works.

Or fit a turbo version from an older model RX7!

Or go crazy and fit a V8!

Potential project car?

What would be the options engine wise? Surely anything other than another rotary would be detrimental to the handling due to added weight?

To rebuild a rotary engine at a specialist you're looking at £3.5k or so.

More like a potential "steel a good one, and put the plates on it"

Dealers are fair game in my book. If a professional car dealer can't spot a dud from a good 'un he won't be in business for long.

According to this site..... http://www.jimmys-rx7.co.uk/rotary-engine-rebuilds...

Cost is .....Our engine rebuild charges are, £1,500 labour, plus parts and vat.

No idea what parts prices are though, and VAT is 20%, well, it is until we approach the next general election and then it will drop because of the conservative miracle budget cure.
