Certifiable, even. wink

(All week,veal great etc).

Why on earth would anyone seek to replace a screen more often than never confused Unless an insurance funded exercise, why? Also, what are people doing to even contemplate this??
Current car is first one I've ever even had to have a screen repair on & I do a decent mileage (inc a good proportion of m-way) for a desk jockey.

I think I've had to replace one, way back when they were toughened and mine shattered on my 1978 Vauxhall! redface

Never even had a significant chip that I can recall on anything else, although I COULD be wrong...

Only if it's damaged to the point where it needs replacing. I've had 3 in 140,000 miles on the Vectra, always from vehicles coming the other way. They all went with a bang. I don't think I'd drive a screenless seven without at least googles or probably a helmet.

I don't think glass perishes or wears out like rubber.

I had one changed on a company car at 60K miles for no particular reason than it had lots of little chips which were irritating when driving into the sun.

On my cars I wouldn't change then unless I really had to due to possible issues with damage to the surrounds, the screen not sealing, not being of the same quality, auto lights/wipers not working properly etc etc.

My Merc screen has 3 biggish chips, one of which I got repaired, and I'd get that changed tomorrow if I thought the process could be hassle free.

Replaced a mate's one in his Nova for a Ford style heated one.... and he got a chip in it the first time we went out in it.

Both my Mk2 Astras have had new ones, but the Nova and Mk4 are on the originals. Nova even has it's reg marked in the corner, as does the headlights. What a '90s thing to do! Like the awful dealer fit sunroof. mad

I like to change all glazing annually as part of the annual service and airbag replacement.

Me too.

At the same time as replacing the engine.

I've only ever changed one to date but that was a quickcleae screen which only half worked plus it had an MOT fail big chip in it so no choice

I'd say door seals need replacing every say 10 years too. Preventative maintence.

Don't forget all the suspension and braking components. Better safe than sorry.

While you're at it that shell could be corroded, if in doubt whip it out.

Best replace the clot behind the wheel for a younger model too...

My 2003 beemer (e46) and my ex 2000 mx5 look like they've been sand blasted! not that good to see through in certain light conditions, never really had this problem before so delved into this problem and apparently some screens get through the making process with soft glass that even dust affects Think these should be changed but probably wo'nt.

I have never personally changed a screen. Had chip repairs and insisted on a new screen when buying a new car but that's it.

I've stopped using windscreen wipers, in case they degrade the glass...

Works a treat, it does...
