Here is the puppy I am looking at. Has a V10 plate which I would probably sell since neither my initials or my wifes are "MDR", although it sort of sounds like taggart. MURDAH!

Love it!

If your first choice is that then to be fair anything else of similar power/comfort/handling and cost is going to be tough to beat

There's some bizarre suggestions here.

The M5 sounds the best for your needs. Buy it.
I hear you and agree but the OP did ask for OTHER suggestions hehe
I quite liked your suggestion, it was the crappy repmobiles I was referring to!

Nice, but the Alpina styling just looks a bit odd/afterthought to me. Whats the engine in the B5?

I've got a D3, it's a good car BUT and it's a big BUT if the M5 (or B5) was on my list of possible purchases I can tell you a tarted up derv would still be at Sytner and a spunkingly good M5 on my drive smile

ok, which would you do:

3 owner car as linked up above, 23,000 miles, 2006, described as mint for £26,600 (but would have to have delivered as in Newcastle)
or
1 owner 30,000, 2008 car, also mint, more local, but nearer to £32,000.

Very conservative horses, as is traditional Alpina custom. wink

As a bonus, they're said to be significantly more economical than M5s, i.e 20-25mpg average rather than 12-18. Rarer too if that sort of thing matters. They also have no top speed limiters if one happens to find oneself on a private road...

They also sound great all the time, rather than just when caning it.
