We've got two - S3 MK1 and a B7 Avant 2.0T Quattro. We wanted 4WD for where we live and BMW don't do a 4WD estate, and I don't like X3s and X5s. The A4 is bigger inside than the 3 series as well. The interiors are well screwed together and ergonomically very usable.

I've swapped between BMW and VAG cars over the past few years and yes, the BMW does drive better but how often do you get the chance?!

Each to their own I suppose. I'd happily drive either a BMW or Audi, but for now an A4 Avant Q is the best choice for me - but in some people's eyes you're a cock for driving either. I must be a complete cock for having two Audis.....

I find Audi interiors to be very very dull. Went to the showroom a month ago, and of all the used cars outside and the new ones inside, there was only 1 car that did NOT have a black interior. That was an A7 in grey and it looked good. Shame that the rest look like the inside of a german coal mine.
From another thread....

I've got a TT Roadster with the 2.0T engine and DSG. Colour combo is condor grey with mustang leather. IMHO it looks great with the 19" wheels (important to me) and the build is fantastic, it feels so much more solid than the Z4 owned previously.

Drive wise it's really light on its feet, the DSG seamless and the ride again so much better than the ridiculously harsh Z4. For me the Audi was the better choice and not being concerned with the last 10/10th handling does all I can ask for it. Bit of a VAG fan here though!

I knew someone who was after a new S-Line A6. In the SE models you had a wealth of choice for your interior colour, however the more expensive S-Line model interiors only came in black*

*Unless you pay a few more grand for some 'Audi exclusive/individual package'. Total rip off

Sticks.

You're right about the TT interior being better than the Z4, but that's not difficult lol. True, my TT is more solid than the Z4, it feels like a tank smile And it's a bit quicker and makes more noise, but give me the Z4 for pleasure any day. Without runflats the ride is fine, it's nimble, precise and you feel part of it much more than the TT imho.

All a matter of opinion and personal choice of course. For me the fragile and clumsy DSG box and FWD are why I'm not having another Audi. That being said, the start button on the BMWs is as irritating for me as the electronic handbrake is for others by the sound of it.

You could do exactly the same picture joke with a BMW interior, possibly more so.

I went for the A6 over the E60 5 Series because the inside of the A6 was much nicer place to be, the seats were better and the driving position suited me more. The A6 also has more interior space and a bigger boot which also suited me.

I like the electronic parking brake

The BMW was better to drive fast on B roads, but everywhere else the A6 with quattro felt more stable plus has the advantage that its a bit better at getting home in the snow.

When I change my car I will look again at the new 5 series, but the interior will have to have improved a great deal. The A6 black Sport interior is nicer and less claustrophobic than the BMW equivalent in my opinion.

In summary, I could only stand the 5 series for 2 years, the A6 is already 4 years old and I have decided to keep it until its 7 years old. Interesting my A6 (Le Mans) is the only volume car I have ever had that gets strangers coming up to you and telling you how nice it is.

Our A4 is a Quattro model, which is essential living up here as the snow is horrific in the winter.

My Dad preferred it to the BMW as he thought it was more comfortable and felt more "secure" on the road. To be fair he is not that keen a driver, just wants a nice comfortable car that can shift when he wants it to, and it does that very well.

Ours is a 2008 (last gen shape) which he thought was much better than the newer one.

Despite being an S-Line it is very good on long journeys, and it is pretty good on the back roads too. Has over 60k on it now and has never gone wrong. Long may that continue smile

Both Audi and BMW make very good cars these days. I guess it's all down to personal preference. I've had a few of each over the years and to generalise, the BMW may be a better drive but the Audi is a nicer place to do 20,000 miles a year in.

I have had about 8 Audis over the years starting with an 80 in about 1994 and then had one of the 1st A4's in 1996. At the time I loved the "bauhaus" design, the fantastic build quality and the relative rarity. All have been utterly reliable.

The 1st TT was stunning (although looks dated now IMHO)

Currently have an A5 which I love. Its on 19's and sports suspension and the ride is really poor, in fact embarrassing when I have passengers, but thats me going for aesthetics. It handles OK if rather dull but its an everyday workhorse and its a great place to sit.

Audi ownership has been peppered with an E60 BMW and a C-class but to this point I still keep coming back to Audi.

However I look at the current range (excluding R8 and other S/RS models) and nothing suitable as a daily driver appeals. I think in may ways despite being fairly bland overall they are becoming a bit over designed if that makes sense. I also think they look frighteningly expensive.

Just thinking about changing now as my A5 is a company car and goes back in November. Thinking of turning my back on the Germans and going for a 18 month old 159 ti. Save a load of cash and bring a smile back to my face.

Oh, it's this time again is it.

As for interiors. I went from a e36 BMW with black seats and black/grey dash to an Audi S3 with black seats and a grey/black dash to a VW Golf with black seats and a black/grey dash.

The only thing that changed was the dial colours. From orange, to red, to white with blue.

BMW used to make good looking cars (E46 era). Now all they make is ugly cars. 1 Series is top of the ugly list, followed closely by the 3.

Audi used to make OK looking cars. Now some of them are pretty good looking IMO. When I bought my A5, I didn't even give the 3-coupe a second look as it's soooo damn ugly.

New Audi smell funny inside; therefore they are rubbish.

I rather like an Audi interior to be honest, not as dynamic as a BMW but there you go.
I do too, however, I have never chosen a car on the strength of nice grab handles and some fancy buttons. wink
but I did & that's why I bought an a3

doing 500 miles/day up and down a motorway or 50 miles around London in the rush hours in comfort is more important to me rather than which wheels are driven

just because it doesn't make sense to you doesn't mean it won't to others

Maybe people choose Audis as they don't want to get stuck in the snow?

I chose my A6 over the equivalent 5 series for the family barge simply because the BMW didn't have enough legroom in the back.

The current 3 series seems to have the same problem.

Don't worry - the fat tyres tend to cancel out the quattro. Got mine stuck a couple of times this year. It's not as good as I was hoping, but that wasn't the reason for buying it.

I sat in an Audi A3 recently and I thought it was a nice place to be, then I drove it and thought what a let down. It seemed like the front of the car just wanted to go completely straight on when I wanted to go right. No steering feel, and a crashing S-Line suspension. Pity.

Where as every BMW I have driven has been pretty good.

You see a lot more BMWs flying up and down the motorway than you do Audi.
