As for the Golfs, the Mk2 GTI is the one really. (...)Everyone will look at your car adoringly, whereas they wouldn't look twice at say, a Smart Roadster.
Optimistic - the vast majority of the population will just see a knackered old Golf, and the tiny majority who see it as a seminal and historically significant hot hatch will be split between those who adore it and those who think you'd have been better off with a 205 GTi or R5 turbo or whatever their preferred brand of nostalgia is.

To add to this in my experience nearly every non petrol head under 30 and nearly any clueless women view a mk2 as a OLD golf and judge it by its number plate. On the other hand nearly everyone over 30 who can remember them being on sale new will admire that it is being kept on the road and will usually recall how much they wanted one in the 80s/90s but couldn't afford/justify having one - NOTE this applies to all of the 80s hot hatches.

A smart roadster is a very much niche motor that not a lot of people are familiar with and if we did a survey id put money on a lot of people thinking the smart forTwo is the only smart available....

fking hell, not this crap again, this guy has become a bad joke that has been dragged on for far too long - it was funny when he was telling us Smart Roadster could hammer a TVR into the ground / that he was setting 1/4 mile records at Santa Pod in it / that he was taking to the ring to beat Bellof's lap etc, but it's just rubbish now. Trolling out every thread he finds, he has become a parody of himself.
