Meh, it's nothing special. 4 turbo's to get 1000bhp from 8 litres. Sounds crap too.

Leave, and don't come back!
Why?

It's 125bhp/litre which is nothing impressive

There are turbo diesels that can do that, bike engines get more then that without a turbo.
Well I think it is impressive, Just because it not the most highely strug engine in the world doesn't take anything away from it. That was never the designers aim, It still produces huge power and wont need rebuilding anywhere never as often as some "1000bhp Supra" If you watched one being built on the program "Mega Factories" You might appreciate what a magnificent piece of engineering it is.

LR in the BMW days had a few knocking around, AIUI. The engine bay has the appropriate mounting points the the twelve.

Apparently the project got dropped for lack of suitable gearbox

I'm quite impressed by his 4x4 since it puts out more torque at the hubs than a veyron puts out at the hubs. It must be some 4x4
Doable if it has the mother of all low range gearsets. A peek at thinfourth's Garage reveals the answer to that dilemma and makes sense of the original comment.

I was trying to work out how a <100bhp engine produced Veyron torque at around 500rpm, before I cottoned on to the "at the hub" rather than "at the crank".

I thought it was because BMW flogged LR to Ford as part of the Rover group break up and didn't want to supply their ultimate (non-Motorsport) engine to another manufacturer for a flagship model that was no longer a BMW Group product, hence the switch to the Jaguar-derived supercharged V8, which was also under Ford stewardship, so a much more "fitting" alliance in brand-building terms when Ford were trying to establish their "Premier Automotive Group".

Doing so and using a bought-in engine from BMW for a halo product would sit rather ill at odds with that premise. It'd have beentacitly admitting that BMW build a better luxury engine than the PAG were capable of. When BMW Group had the L322 on the drawing board, they weren't planning to sell LR to Ford evidently, so the RR was engineered from the very outset to carry the BMW Group top-drawer engine, as also fitted to the contemporary Rolls Royce Silver Seraph. That way all BMW's ultimate models under each luxury car marque would have been using the same V12 engine, as they do currently.

I know the L322 was supposedly engineered with it in mind, but I've never seen a picture of one.

There is a much newer V12 RR kicking about Warwickshire.

Who else makes V12 engines and was part of PAG?

Do the maths Mr Twelve. hehe

Assume it's a factory hack?

It's been doing the rounds for a bit.

Not going to happen now with car due for replacement in 2013.

There would be strong demand for a V12 RR in China.

Dr Reitzle wanted the car to have the V12 from launch.

He knew a thing or two.

Just think for a moment how many great cars he was involved in:

E32
E34
E31
E36
E46
E38
E39
Z1
L322 RR
Bini

Not a poor selection.

Him, Dr Bez and Fishtrousers knew how to make motor cars.

Not at all, given that's still my shopping list and back-catalogue of BMWs (but subsitute E36 for Z8 and it's a perfect list) smile

Nah, plenty of Ultima's getting close to that HP anyhow.

Cooling is the major issue but if it could be solved then for me I'd stick it into a Radical SR9 and then proceed to get the thing a Road Worthy Cert
