Asda have 5L (I think) for £8 - anyone know of cheaper?

It's going to end up on the road anyway until I am able to find the source of this leak....

Confuscious say good things not cheap, cheap things not good.

Speaking for the bikers you might kill or maim in the process, I'd suggest you fix the leak first & drive second.

It's not exactly dropping it's sump all over the road every couple of miles, just a slow drip.

I think the same chain is doing Castrol GTX - 4l for £8.

One litre less but better quality oil?

If you can get Castrol, even if it's only GTX, for only 20% more than own-branded crap, then you'd be barking mad not to.

Seems I was looking at the price of a 2L bottle under a stack of 5L ones....

Bought a litre of some generic crap from a local motor factors, that'll do for now. Was no Castrol at that price in my local (no bottles that size) - will keep an eye out for it though.

I saw the deal I mentioned in their national press advert but their website says £14!

However they are doing a deal on Castrol Edge 5W 30 or 5W 40 . . . 4l for £35 which doesn't sound bad. I remember my old S4 took that & Audi wanted over £20 per litre!!!

Or a gallon of 20W 40 for £7 - about the same price as petrol ! !

I don't work for Asda by the way - other supermarkets are available.

laugh - they don't sell that crap in my local either. There's a limit as to how cheap I'll go - it IS a snotter but not a terrible one.

Lovely, nothing like good quality oil and that's nothing like good quality oil.

Nothing really wrong with it if you're putting it into something that's on it's last legs and burning it though, right? (or really old engines that actually use 20W50, there's got to be some?)

No - if it was it'd be doing so in a Kia workshop laugh

It's an Almera (2002 02 with 105k on the clock) which I'm running for the next few weeks for work. smile

In some cases it will hurry the process of death, clogging up hydraulic tappets, timing chain spray bars, etc. Older cars it is more suited to, but like most things better is available and oil is the life blood of the engine. Miller's oils do some great oils for older cars. If I'm not mistaken, this cheap oil is quite often reconstituted old engine oil.

So no danger to anyone? If it's that bad you worry about the cost of top-ups then I'd suggest it's unsafe for other road users on two wheels. Sod them, though- as long as you're not inconvenienced it'll be fine.

the 'smart price' oil is probably the same stuff most garages use if you take it there for a service anyway..

Try your local motor factors, you can get much better quality oil (albeit no the best) for a few more quid.

Have you tried adding that seal re-conditioner with the oil?

The more it leaks and the more everything gets covered in oil the harder it will be to find. Clean the engine using gunk etc. and track down and fix the leak rather than dropping oil on the road.

This. And RH is right, you might think it's only a few drops, but a bit of drizzle and that suddenly turns into an ice patch for bikers.

Get it fixed nonowink

I always use Wilkinsons 10W-40 semi synth in all my steeds (including the bike)...have done for many 000's of miles. £13 for 5L, plus and most importantly it has the right markings ACEA A3/B3 API SL CF <--good enough for most vehicles.

As for dripping oil and motorcyclysts...I woulden't worry too much considering the ammount of diesel people love to throw away all over the roads!!mad ...it pales into insignificans.
