You can buy a mint low miles BMW M635 csi from the late eighties. Same engine as the BMW M1 looks uber rero cool, and they are going to steadily rise in value over the next couple of years. Not only that but it has all the creature comforts and classic car insurance

You might squeeze a reasonable Jaguar S type R within your budget - ticks most of your boxes, although might be a bit heavy on fuel, but sounds fantastic when the supercharger starts howling. Great for long distances on motorway too.

For 20k miles a year???

Great car for a weekend / second car, but I don't think you'd want to be putting 20k a year on one and subjecting it to salty, gritty winter roads.

TVR Chimaera.

You only live once.
If you subscribe to the TVR theory, surely need a Tuscan or a Griffith or a T350 or something not a Chimaera...

Always looks like an MGB to me... frown

I was in a similiar position earlier in the year and for me it came down to either an Evo 9 or an E46 M3. I went with the Evo but since you want niether then I'd suggest go with the scooby. Similiar performance and more reasonable servicing, a few mods will see 350bhp+ too.

I've found myself in the same situation many times. After various Evo's, Imprezas and even diesels, the car i now drive is an DC5 Integra Type-R. Its a very solid drivers car with very balanced setup. There is just the correct amount of power (220hp), braking ability, mechanical grip, weight (1170kg) and it returns quite good MPG (28-37 imp mpg) as well. The build quality is very solid MADE IN JAPAN- Honda and i dont even have to start comparing the maintenance between Evo/Impreza and Integra. wink Integra also has Recaro seats, Brembo brakes and a torsen front differential which makes it such a great drivers car.

If you need more space, i would say a MK5 GTI would be the model to go. You can tune up the TFSI engine ecu up to 250hp and if you want more involving drive, get the helical front differential from VWRacing.

Monaro VXR everything you need just a little heavier on fuel but well worth it!
And has loads of room for an LPG tank and I believe it is an engine that handles LPG well...
Two biggest issues for LPG are in my opinion space for a big, decent range tank and finding a car that is proven to work well on it - sorted!

I had similar requirements and struggled to find something 'different'. In the end I settled for a current model Lexus GS430. Although it is by no stretch a sports car and more on the wallowy side of things versus a 5-series it is still no slouch circa 6.0 to 60mph 275bhp in the V8. It is shame though that you cannot actually hear the V8 unless you really push it and even then it is muted. However it is a great place to be when you're doing 20k pa as I do - especially on long motorway runs. For your budget you'd be able to get the GS450H which meets your MPG needs too and low tax. As a next car I'd change for the 450H or possibly the RX400H 4x4.

The GS is a pretty anonymous, Japanese styling. And you say you're late 20's not late 60's which seems to the typical driver (I'm not quite that old yet) so you'd have overcome the 'image' issue that people concerned with that kind of thing would have. However it is loaded with pretty much every conceivable option. And if you get the Mark Levinson hi-fi option it is one of the best on the market.

Umm. I don't think the S2000 is practical at all, no storage space, cabin feels very cramped and getting inside/outside is not that much of fun. Sure it is reliable, fast and fun. But the F20C (2.0) engine leaves something to wish for, suspension setting is not the sharpest and neither is the steering.

Some great suggestions, the criteria can definitely be met, maybe one or two wishes have to be lost but it would always be a compromise:

I liked the sound of the Monaro, will looking into that. Jags are good but maybe a bit company director looking?!? Got excited about lexus rx400h until I saw it was cvt gearbox - no way! I know they fitting them to new impreza but after having an escort with one years back - NEVER again!

911 and Z4MC good shouts.

Scoob and m3 still possibilities.

Need to check out monaros

See my garage - STi, mapped, 350bhp... Sure, you look like a cock, but who cares when there are but a few cars on the road that have a cats chance in hell of keeping up...

Took mine to a track for the first time last week - sheer comedy.

Oh, and when you have kids buy a roof box, weather the 4MPG and you can use it for holidays - Bonus!
