Cheap Car Share system - anything exist? any interest?

Inspired by the "why don't we run system where we swap snotters every three months" comment in the "Show us your snotters" thread.

Do any car share clubs exist at the bottom end of the market? I'm aware of quite a few Classics clubs and obviously the T1 type top level stuff but I was wondering if any actual "sharing clubs" exist where everyone puts something in (say worth £1K) and people rotate rather than just stump up their cash and someone does all the sourcing/organisation?

Next question, would anyone be interested in it?

I can't see it working because at that price bracket you could be looking at a £1000 bargain gem or a £1000 money pit. You'd be rather annoyed if you had a turn in a bargain GTV and it spat its dummy out on the way somewhere. You'd probably rather have your boring and crap but reliable diesel snotter back because at least you'd get there. Also who would pay the bills?
