Anyway to find out who owns a car?

Is it possible to locate a car? I am interested in a number plate and I know how to find out the car model etc using the number plate but is there a way to find out who owns the car? I am assuming not but worth asking!

Asking the DVLA would be the usual way. It won't be free though, and you'll have to give a reason for wanting the information.

yep, and wanting to buy their plate isn't one of them (sadly - have tried). Only fraud, insurance-related or activities the police would be interested in, will they sell owner data (apparently)
