Aggghhh - school boy mistake

On this subject, the AA etc recommend that the -ve terminal of the flat car is connected to a neutral point (rather than the -ve terminal on the battery)

How many of you do that, and how many connect +ve to +ve, and -ve to -ve?

That was my first thought. I've done it a few times (cack handed fool that I am) and never had any problems - I do have a quick peek at the fuse box though to be on the safe side. And a few months ago I got a friend to put the leads on the cars whilst I went inside to get something, came out, started my car, only to discover she'd put the -ve to +ve... Just a quick smell of burning and a spark or two, then I managed to switch them over and her car still jump started and she was able to drive away. They are fairly robust these days I think.

Update - good news. Checked all the fuses and they were fine so installed a new battery and it started first time - phew, panic over!
