Estate or hatch
Discussion
Just interested what others have done to resolve a similar issue I have now.We enjoy family holidays in and around the uk and now have two small dogs. There are three of us in the family so plus the dogs we are going to need some space.I would rather avoid an estate and 2-3k will not buy me anything particularly interesing anyway but would a large hatch with perhaps a roofbox suit ?
What do you people do ?

Similar problem, but one large dog, bought an audi a6 (c5) avant v6 biturbo for 3.5k, bags of room, very comfortable, 4WD and quick enough as a day to day car.. only downside is mpg, but can live with that for the other benefits..
Smaller engine petrol can be had cheaper, likewise non-hot Volvo.v70's

So remember dont put dogs in roofbox, dont put dogs in roofbox
Yes petrol costs are also a kicker.
Because I also need a car for the shortish (8ml) commute to work I have also been considering a snotter and maybe a 3rd car for the family.Thats the problem I need one car to do everything but putting it all in perspective we go on holiday only twice maybe three times per year.

My 52 plate Volvo V70 D5 is for sale if your interested. A bit more than 3.5k though.
The ad is in the classifieds somewhere (ignore the price it's a tad optimistic). It's a blue 52 plate auto.
PM me if interested and I'll send you info.
Oh and we have a dog and a young un, loads of room in the Volvo. You can even get a longitudinal load divider so hounds can go in one half and luggage in t'other. One of them and a roofbox and you'll have loads of room.

This worked for me, plenty of room:What do you people do ?
But equally I quite like things like the Subaru Impreza Wagon or Forrester or even an e30/e36 estate.
Was just looking at the 2003 on shape vectra SRi which seem to have a mahoosive boot.Ive driven the 1.8 which I thought was quite nice but needed more grunt and would then be much nicer. The question is should one touch one with a bargepole?
Alternatively there are the offerings from Ford in the shape of the mondeo or Mazda 6 both of which also seem to be well endowed in the boot dept.
