French cars seem to be quite resistant to rust.

My old Fiesta was a born ruster, granted it was 10 years old when I sold it, but it only had 29,000 on the clock, and it was already rusting away merrily on the rear arches. The old fiesta, and the Ka, had carpet undertrays at the rear - god k knows why - cost saving probably, but it made the moistest, saltiest environment imaginable in those arches. Rust city!

I am that sick of expensive corrosion issues on my cars (I live on the coast)I have lost interest in them.
I am getting more and more into bikes now, easier to store inside, generally cheaper so I can have a few at the same time and none of the paintwork hassles.
Although, you are more likely to kill yourself.
get a jag xk all aluminium no rust for you
Yup, just like the XJ....with lots of little bits of corrosion. Won't rust, will corrode. Same difference when you have to pay to sort it.
Ever looked at an older Defender up close!
Yes. I have to everyday. It's very orange and you haven't explained your point.

Steel framed doors with aluminium cladding = galvanic corrosion.
White, furry corrosion around the rivet heads and anywhere the two metals meet.
They are built with gaskets between the two materials and this breaks down over time.

It's a shame cars rust. Just imagine how much easier classic ownership would be if they were impervious to corrosion.

A lot of it is luck of the draw.

My old Skoda is almost rust free. It has no structural rust, just some surface patina on the underside that I am cleaning up and re-sealing.

Other examples of my car, from the same vintage are totally riddled with rust.

Why is mine special? I can't see any reason why, it just is.
REPLY........This is just it , there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, just hav ea look around a car park and see some cars rusting and others much much older without so much as a speck anywhere
And as Roadrunner23 said "French cars dont seem to have this problem" ours is a Ford galaxy and has rusted quickly to bits but i dont see many Galaxys with rust problems and i have yet to see a Renault Espace {apart from some realy ancient abused ones} with even one little pimple of rust {shame about the reliability}

And then there are all those Toyota people cariers i think they are japanese imports all with early to mid 90s number plates and not one speck of rust to be found i look at ours and the rust on newer Fords and think How comes??? GRRRRRR!!!!

Down to the climate in Japan. It's much drier. For a start, they don't have flooding during their summer hehe

We are also the only country in Europe that still uses rocksalt on our roads - everywhere else uses artificial stuff. It's about time we sorted this out, as it can't help the rust issues.

Various reasons:
Galvanised/Non galvanised chassis
Low quality paint
Low quality steel
Water traps

Thats because all but the newer one's are made of plastic (when they were built by Matra).
