They're not common to me. I'd say I've spotted a similar amount to Abarth 130TCs. They never seemed to be as numerous as Uno Turbos, and they never seemed big sellers.

Wow, a Tipo that hasn't rusted into a brown pile yet. Good effort.
You idiot.

The Tipo was one of the very first mass-market galvanised cars, so they resisted rust much better than *any* of their peers.
If they are the same as the Alfa 155(I have one) which has a similar chassis they only galvanised the skin panels and not underneath - whilst my Alfa has amazing body work, it has in the past had to be welded underneath and plenty die due to rot!

Always had a soft spot for these back in the day - mainly because it had a market-leading power output (well, until the 306 GTI-6 and Clio 172 came along). Plus it had that all-important Italian 'exoticness'.

Really? I thought the 2 litre 16V Astra GTE had 156 bhp well before this. Anyone confirm for me?

Don't forget the Tipo's plastic bootlid. I recall my parents being given a spiel about that being a huge advantage by a Fiat salesman back in the day...

I owned a 3 door version a few years ago - it cost a fortune to keep in tiptop condition but I absolutely, unequivocally loved it to bits. I did 50k miles in 5 years, raced my mate in his e30 325i every single day. It revved all the way to heaven, stopped and steered well too.

Of all the cars i've owned its the one I have the fondest memories of.

LOL, I love the advert.

" wishing for a "Sedici" for the past 10 years "
" lay my hands on this one fairly recently "
" For sale "

AKA I bought a heap, then lost the rose tinted glasses and realised I bought a heap.

" wishing for a "Sedici" for the past 10 years "
" I haven't checked any fuses as none of that has bothered me "

AKA I care about the car I've lusted after for 10 years so much I CBA to try to get it working, or I have tried and the problem is not the fuses so I want shot.

" amazing drive and engine noise "
" Fairly new JVC cd player fitted "

Kettle, we have a Mr Pot on line 1 for you... biggrin

As far as the car goes, way below the level of "shed".

Not 'well before' - they were launched in the same year.

Although not a 'fashionable' shape now, I've always rather liked its aesthetic - has a 'thuggish', purposeful air. Very Italian...

I think I prefer the quirkiness of the 5dr's C-pillar treatment - interesting things going on there (albeit not 'beautiful'). Different.

Plus the practicality of course.

I'm a bit amazed at the enthusiasm most seem to show for this, but then PistonHeads frequently amazes me like that.

It's a proper, old-worlde hot hatch, that's why people love it.

The only electronic aid on those is ABS, if it still works.

My mate had one of these for his first car. It was a 1.6 i thought it was well cool and at the time the fastest thing i'd been in. It had a digital dash and everything smile. Even the engine made a cool sound, it almost sounded electonic, kinda weird.

But yeah you don't see them these days.

Ah, that does explain it. I was never keen on hot hatches being a big car fan, so I can't generally tell them apart from ordinary hatches by looking at them.
