Seen loads of them in Calgary - I love the look. Best one was today - Black with Matt Black wheels. Lovely.

I don't need to do 270 miles to get 30mpg from my LS1. Any sensible motorway/dual carriage way trip it'll easily do 28-30mpg. Just set the cruise to 65mph or even 70mph.

But most of the time it's used for short local journeys and most of these for pure fun. Yet more often than not when I work out the mpg it's 24mpg. Lowest I've ever clocked is 19mpg. And it's not as if I don't make use of all the ponies either hehe

Look, let's put this MPG issue to bed, shall we?

It just so happens I drove my Monaro into work this morning, weather being nice and all, and, door to door, the MPG was 29.7, not bad for cold start-up etc.

Now, granted, my commute is mostly 27 miles of reasonably quiet DC with the cruise set to 70mph, and if I was 'enjoying' a cross-country blast, it would be an entirely different kettle of fish.

So, in summary, yes you can get sensible (for the size of the engine) mpg out of a big V8, it just depends on the type of journey you want to do.

To put it into perspective, the BEST I ever saw out of my old Subaru, was 31 mpg! And from a 'tiny' 2.0 4pot too! hehe

Budget (rent-a-car) had a 'deal' in May 2011 (closed now I think) meaning I was able to rent a Camaro in Ohio at half the rental price... there was me thinking I'd be getting a tame V6, delighted when it turned out to be the V8 SS version... looked absolutely awesome in White... nice rumble... visibility is a bit of a problem... but over the two weeks I grew to really enjoy driving it...

My Monaro is an everyday car - fuel consumption is not a big issue, it's a shade under 30mpg on any long run and a shade under 20mpg if I pootle about town. So about the same as, or better than, any other biggish GT with a decent turn of performance.

They found it a very close run thing! Loads of power from the latest Mustang and a bit too much weight in the Camaro's convertible conversion.

Typical Road & Track. They refer to the handling short-comings of the 'Stang as "period correct". hehe
