I would!

Where do I sign?

£39k for a rag top is insanely cheap!

I gather that the conversion makes them a horribly expensive proposition in Oz.
Having seen a fair few RHD converted Mustangs, I'd stick with (and have) LHD!!

Not to mention the difference in crash test rating :-o

Will they be sold through "Chevrolet" dealers or Vauxhall? Considering they already have people trained up for the Monaro and VXR8 it'd make more sense to use the Vaux network I think.

It'll be Chevrolet, given all the talk about it being a halo model.

Very tempted by this, though I want to see what happens to the RX7/9 and the next STI as well.

Am I the only one that actually doesn't think this is that cheap? If you bought one over in the US now at current exchange rate (about 1.60 $ to £) and shipped it over (granted there is the shipping fees + tax to consider) then it would still be cheaper than buying one from the dealer here at the given prices.

Base spec (not SS) starts over there at $22k which is about £13k!!!! You can get an SS for $35-40k depending on options which is <£22 - 25k. So how is high 30s a good deal? Economies of scale should allow dealers to ships them over here pretty cheap, so they could still sell them for £30k and make a profit.

You might save a couple of grand importing it yourself, but the yank owners here will tell you that by the time you've shipped it, paid the tax (which you also pay on the shipping!), put it through an SVA, a dollar becomes a pound equivalent.

THis is the equivalent of an 2SS with RS package, isn't it? Those are $37072 without options. Running that, and standard shipping and insurance costs through the duty calculator gives £32147 by the time it's landed. That doesn't include your SVA and the conversion work required to get one. You really wouldn't save much at all.

And these are Chevrolet dealers. They'd have a heart attack if someone agreed to pay sticker price on any car.

I like these but its is really a difficult car to see out of sometimes, windscreen is like a widescreen postbox, the rear pillars and high waistline dont help and beign LHD and wide in a RHS country I think it would be a pain in the backside.

^ This.

I'm fairly happy with the price given it's painful journey here - and I'll even forgive the lack of RHD (engineered, but "we" don't want it apparently).

I'm very very very tempted to buy one new. I should get my head seen to.

I think that's a good price new. The independent importers have been selling them for more.
It'll help to bring down the price of used ones too. Which is nice.
Very tempting.

The first year VEL rate is going to be £1000 and the yearly rate thereafter £460.
By contrast, the import will be £215 first year and £215 every year thereafter.

The "saving" soon evaporates.

The 4th gen had to come with a single pipe quiet exhaust too for the EU noise test so hope they don't over-silence this beast too.

Personally I'd still import my own.

Me too. Since the Coupe 60 is dead, I think this will have to do. Only the LHD thing puts me off.

Or I might stick a supercharger onto the 'ro – I love that car.

I think it's a good price also, considering the 2005 UK list prices for Monaros were £29,995 and £35995 for the CV8 and VXR respectively. Of course no-one actually paid these silly prices for them (I hope frown), my 9 month old CV8 was nearly £12k cheaper than new list! yikes

Let's hope these Camaros do the same wink

For all the people saying its LHD booo etc can you not put a camera mounted in the wing mirror or windscreen on the Passanger side and have that linked to a display somewhere, then you can see whats coming so its safe to pull out and look for yourself.

IT's really not that problematic. People try to make out sitting a couple of feet further across is a huge issue but it isn't.

Didn't the Monaro have to do the same, but they allowed a dealer fit "sports" exhaust which was fitted to practically all the cars?

Usually those people that haven't driven LHD.

You could do that. Or you could just sit a few feet further back from the vehicle you intend to overtake so you have more visibility. Worked for me in the LHD 911 I ran for two years. With 426BHP in this thing it should not be a problem making up those few feet if it is a safe overtaking oportunity in the first place.

lost its wow factor when you can have been able to buy UK spec Holden v8 range in this contry since O4, some trading at sub 8k!or a spec-ed up 2year old vrx8 with pound for pound power at sub 20k.

tranfsormers fans only in my opinion.
Seriously, will all you people who read these articles then spout stuff like this, without first thinking about what you are saying, stop doing this??

It spoils almost every new car thread.

"£35k??? eek why not just buy a USED car for less?"

Well why not indeed? In fact, why go for the VXR8 at 2 years old, when you could go the whole hog and buy a 10 year old Aston V12? Moron.

As for the car, it looks lovely, they sound divine and eye wood......if it were RHD and I had £35k.
