There is a lot of difference between an impact gun and a big spanner. One has rotational forces, the other has a big angular force that almost guarantees a failure.
So what's the difference between a rotational and an angular force? A impact gun purely turns along the axis of the thread a fat bloke plus scaffold pole will also impart a force at 90 degrees to the axis of the thread as the socket is turned from the top not the side

TBH it depends what you compair it against?
WD40 is ste as a release agent, heat followed by ATF does everything i need, even just ATF is better than WD40 otherwise i use GT85
This. 50% mix of acetone and ATF in a spray bottle is better than anything I've ever tried. Way cheaper too...WD40 is ste as a release agent, heat followed by ATF does everything i need, even just ATF is better than WD40 otherwise i use GT85

But the use of a T-bar would exert no tangential force and still wouldn't be as good as an impact gun. The direction of any additional forces has nothing to do with it - it's the repetitive high peak torque of an impact gun that makes them effective.A impact gun purely turns along the axis of the thread a fat bloke plus scaffold pole will also impart a force at 90 degrees to the axis of the thread as the socket is turned from the top not the side

Agreed, but using an 450Nm impact gun (like the Clarke CEW1000) on an M6 bolt might not be the best idea.NickCLotus said:
I know this is a very old thread but can accross it while searching to find what is the best penetatring oil.
Unfortunately Halfords no longer sell this, what was wrong with ir, did it just work too well?
No idea, but the next best aerosol seems to be Kano Kroil, which is expensive but worth the money. Unfortunately Halfords no longer sell this, what was wrong with ir, did it just work too well?
Or as said above, make some acetone/ATF mix (the acetone creeps through gaps, the ATF is incredibly slippery)
