Most miles driven/ridden in one go?
Discussion
Done some daft trips in Europe and the States, but the roads are so open and easy compared to trying to cover ground here. The longest UK based one I did in one go was from Exeter to Plockton in the Highlands which was around 630 miles. I keep meaning to give Lands End to John O'Groats a go when I've got a couple of free days just so I can say I've done it.
I've forgotten about my trip when I was about 20 although it wasn't really in one go. Friends Dad wanted to repatriate his W126 Mercedes 500SE from Malta to his home in Berkshire. So he paid for my mate Alistair and I to fly out and spend a weeks holiday in his villa. He booked the 2 Italian ferries for us, gave us money for fuel, £100 per night for hotels and £100 per day spending money based on a weeks travel. We went via Monaco, took 6 days to get home, slept in the car for 4 nights and saved the rest on getting skulled. That was around 2,000 miles. We took turns driving and it was easy with youth, ignorance and stupidity on our side.

Perhaps a better question would be - whats the longest you've driven with cruise control on without touching the brakes? My record is Ringwood, Dorset (possibly Hants) to the M25 (at a naughty speed too), got close to a few vehicles and understand why some are against the idea (illegal in Belgium according to TG)
I managed from Thetford Forest to the Dartford Bridge on a Sunday night, cruise control constantly for about 92 miles I think it was. When I was living in Sydney me and a mate had the mad idea of jumping in my car late on Saturday and driving through the night to watch the F1 GP in Melbourne. After the race jumped back in the car and drove through the night to arrive very tired back in Sydney and straight to work Monday morning. Looking it up that's a 1085 mile round trip, the things you do when your young eh !
The furthest I have driven is 990 miles in my E36 328i, from Faaker See in Austria to Bedfordshire.
On the drive to Faaker See I stopped near Salzburg in Germany just before crossing into Austria. I didn’t have much further to go to reach my destination, but as I had cocked up somewhere in Belgium which meant I lost a couple of hours driving time, I was too knackered to carry on so had a kip in the car for a couple of hours in a service station on the Autobahn.
For the drive home I decided to do it in one go – stopping only for fuel and toilet breaks. This plan was interrupted slightly by the Polizei stopping to check our documents, and a blowout on the Autobahn (thankfully a restricted section!) meaning I had to stop and change the wheel on the hard shoulder – not fun. I was very tired when I finally got home, despite kipping for 30 minutes on the ferry. I’m not sure I would do it again. The trip was brilliant though – would recommend the Worthersee event to anyone!
I think it also helped that I drove in a convoy and had friends to keep me entertained on the drive.
For this thread I wish I had driven a little further to round the distance up to 1000 miles. Mind you, some of the replies here would have easily topped that still!
