1997 Ford Taurus wagon.

He's worth $4bn+, but can't see the point of spending money on cars. He also walks around the campus in his socks and old jumpers, perpetuating the fusty old college professor image.

Lots of other petrolheads in the HQ though. Always some interesting machinery in the car park.
now i dont understand that. surely he wants something, comfortable, quiet, reliable.

i have no interest in cutlery but if i was worth $4b, i wouldnt be using knives and forks from tesco.

Immediate boss has a 430 Scuderia, that she occasionally drives into work.

MD has a whole collection of good stuff, but his "daily" is a DBS Volante.

My commuter is awesome too. Fuji Mt Fuji Pro mountain bike. Woo.

ETA: I forgot to put the "Pro" into the specs of my daily ride. Dammit.

He uses it to get from his home to the office, which is less than 2 miles. Half the time he's on the road anyway. He did comment on the comfort of the seats in my V70 when I gave him a lift to a customer site once though. smile

My previous 'MD' had a black Nissan GT-R and certainly didn't hang around with it.

Not sure who the new 'MD' is but there is now often an Audi R8 and a Ferrari California in the car park.

All completely rubbish compared to what's sat a few metres away in front of the reception desk biggrin
...which is???

MD has a 530 GT from the company car scheme - nicer in the flesh than the pictures and a very nice place to be on a long trip.

He also had a 911 Carrera which he said he was selling as he did no more than 3k miles in it, went to the garage to sell it on and ended up buying a 911 Turbo as 'it was only £82k'. Mug laugh

ETA - One of the nicest cars is a site managers Mustang (might be a 67) which is fantastic and wins a fair few shows with (sometimes when he doesn't even go to be entered!). He said Topgear have been in touch for a feature they might do in episode 6 this series and is waiting to hear, as is another friend who tarts up Jenson Interceptors and might go and show Caudwells lovely example in the same episode bounce

We have 5 'Directors' and all of them drive some form of Octavia or Superb. I used to get the emails with leasing offers. They got offered a very similar price on 5 Audi S3's or 5 Renaultsport Megane's. They chose the rubbish, burgundy Octavia estate or the off white huge lumbering Superb, despite only using it for one person!

An ancient Land Cruiser. He is worth millions and has a vast country estate, so nothing to prove.

It's not about having nothing to prove. He just doesn't "do" cars.

I detest this (peculiarly English) attitude that if you drive/own a nice car/(insert other applicable item), you are trying to prove something. No. It may just mean that you like cars/(whatever particular item we've inserted).

This "he has a country estate and is old money because he drives a snotter" thing has run its course. Look at Lord March.
