I love the steering wheel in my Volvo. Mind you, in this picture it looks as though the leather on the outside of it is textured. Mine is lovely and smooth. I love the feel of it and that flat face it has. The buttons on it are great and actually work (so often they feel naff or don't work) which is a bonus and though I rarely use the cruise control, being able to speed up and slow down by pressing a button is cool. If I could change one thing I think I'd have some of that mottled leather like you get on Subaru steering wheels on the grip area.

I've never liked wooden steering wheels but I could live with one in the right car. But this abomination takes the wooden wheel to a new low:

And this one has always looked naff to me. That massive dome in the middle for the airbag makes it look like a crap flying saucer has invaded the cabin, likely looking for diesel lovers and soft touch plastics. It looks even worse from some other angles which accentuate the goofiness of the design.

My MX5 had a wheel like this one (though it was a mk2):

.

I loved the thin feel of it, and the flat face was cool too. But it was too big for the car, and despite only being 6'2", it was always in danger of colliding with my knees. I had planned to get a small steering wheel fitted but never bothered and sold the car.

Don't really like those plastic steering wheels where the grip has separated from the metal hoop inside and twists when you're holding it. We had an Impreza in the family with a steering wheel which had gone like that. Was a base spec non-turbo model.

Have to say, never really been that keen on steering wheels which have half leather and half wood around the grip surface.

Pug 309 Goodwood GTI wheel. Nicest steering wheel I've ever used. Shame they have a tendancy for the wood to split across the top.

Sadly I've never cared for the two spoke TVR wheel, just seems unbalanced.
Wouldn't you catch the buttons all the time too ? Very fussy wheel design imho.

I find the steering wheel quite horrendous on this beauty...

My most hated steering wheel is the one in the 458

It's a stupid shape, and has far too many buttons on it.

My personal favourite is the 997 GT3 RS 4.0

Can't beat the Personal wheel in a TVR.

They put those in TVRs? I have one in my MR2 - I assumed that it was just the cheapest aftermarket wheel the previous owner had been able to find.

No you don't really, at the quarter to 3 position the wheel is delightfully chunky. Plus, with the transmission tunnel acting as an armrest, you tend to hold the steering wheel at twenty to two. Or at least I do.

I quite like the feel of the Personal wheel in my Chim. They used to supply wheels to some F1 teams in the past, I believe.

My most hated one is this

In late 80's/early 90's BMW's.

It's just a bloody awful boat wheel and doesn't look like a BMW wheel in the slightest, doesn't fit any of the interiors it was fitted in at all.

I still cant believe it ended up in a Ferrari if i was honest. I genuinely do think that overall the 90's was a bleak time in automotive design (overall).

I can't argue with that.

And now for the paperbag bit... I quite like that Lotus steering wheel. I like a chunky steering wheel, and the Lotus wheel would definitely fit the bill.

Early (circa 1981) Audi quattro turbo steering wheels were best described as a Germanic version of a Routemaster Bus wheel... They were 'period' steering wheels, even when new...

But, originality is king, and they do make good money now.

Must admit i havent caught the buttons in 5 years, but agree the wheel looks rubbish, but it feels good to hold & is alot better to use than it looks visually.

I have always prefered 3 spoke wheels best.

My favourite wheel

Anything that isn't round and has a flat bottom, just looks nasty IMO
